So when Vista is released (Jan. 07) and a person has a DX10 GPU, what happens? Demos?

Just curious since Vista ships with DX10, if a person has a Dx10 card, will there be any tech demos we can run? I'm assuming some DX10 games will be out then, but not sure there will be very many.

:)

If I recall correctly, Flight Simulator X will receive an automatic upgrade when Vista/DX10 ships.

Apart from that, I am not knowing. I would assume we will have something from FutureMark soon (3dmark07?), though probably not on January 30th.

Hopefully Nvidia will have some neat DX10 tech demo/showcases on their website, like their Luna and MadModMike or whatever his name is.

Nvidia and ATI will release demos to show off effects obtainable with D3D10, Flight Sim X, UT2K7 (thats if development ever gets done on it) and Crysis (same thing as UT) should all see DX10 patches with in weeks of vista release

expect Flight Sim X to be the show caser for D3D10 and what it can do

First off, you'd probably want to check out the DirectX SDK. Most of it (i.e. ~99%) the average consumers, i.e. you guys, probably won't be interested, but that last 1% is a bunch of little Direct3D 10 demos showcasing some effects that are quite practical due to D3D10. Those'll be the first things that you'll be able to run on an 8800GTX in Vista.

you get to twiddle your thumbs and run dx9 games on your pricey dx10 hardware.

Which, incidentally, is better and faster and more powerful than any other cards out there...often better than any 2 other cards :)

RTM has vista.... wow that was a stupid thing to say

RTM means released to manufacturers. Seems a legitimate thing to say since vista uses DX10 in its gui with DX9 backwards compatibility.

I think the games are going to be slow to come out that support DX10 in a meaningful way. It is fully possible that even crysis and UT will run better on XP with DX9 and a 8800 than on vista with DX10 on the same hardware.

That being said, Nvidia has the advantage I think in DX10 this first round of games though because the guys building the games only have Nvidia parts to be optimizing for right now.

Halo 2 PC is the first game for DX10 I heard.

halo2 has nothing to do with dx10... its just something microsoft is doing to make you buy vista.

I don't know if it will be the first but I am really looking forward to it and Crysis. I am gonna dual boot Vista and XP until SP1 comes out and then we will see.
