Here is the asus utility which allows total fan control , it installs an enhanced driver .

Very useful and no need to use third party one :)

Are you still using that Smartpower 500 psu with the 8800 card?

What, do you honestly think it would be a problem? The SmartPower II, unlike the SmartPower I, is an excellent series that has good power handling. The only real difference between SmartPower II and TruePower II is the price, and the fact that TruePower II is regulated beyond ATX12v specs (+/- %3 instead of +/- %5), and that the higest available SmartPower II is only 500w.

In fact, one thing the SmartPower II series has over the TruePower II: it's more efficient (%80 peak versus %76 peak).

The SmartPower II 500 can deliver more than enough watts for an 8800 GTX (135w peak), let alone the GTS (105w peak). You only start to run into issues if you want SLI. The GTS uses less power than an x1950 XTX, so what's there to worry about?

I am glad, I was just curious because I am building a computer and was worried about
the power supply if it has enough power to run SLI

The SmartPower 500 can deliver 36A on the 12v line, and Nvidia cards typically draw most of their power from the 12v lines. Thus, 8800 GTS in SLI should be possible.

Let's say just (worst case) each 8800GTS card draws 120w, even though HardOCP measured 105 (because we know the x1950 XTX uses 125w peak). With the pair, that's 240w. Assume a MAXUIMUM of 150w for the rest of the computer (that should cover even a multi-drive monster), and you're still below the limit of 430w (12v * 36A).

You should be fine. You don't need an "SLI" label to run SLI, although I really wouldn't try SLI 8800 GTX cards with less than 40A on the 12v lines.

Well, there is a HUGE difference with the GTX.

I think I am going to wait until Christmas shopping starts to see if any good deals come out. If not then I am waiting until January.

Nice power supply at least. I have had that one for over a year now. I love it.

Dragon Heart - Nice OC!

I have a few questions (if you dont mind) ...

I am also purchasing a 8800gts (although I have never owned a NVDA card before).

What do I need to do driver wise to install the card and overclock it ... I see that you use ATItool (I use this also for my x800gto - didnt know I could still use it for a NVDA card).

- So I will assume that when I get the card I need too: uninstall all ati drivers and use their driver cleaning tool.

- Then install NVDA drivers (which ones?) and which OCing tool do you recommend? atitool then (should I wait to install atitool until after I installed the drivers?)

thanks

Nvidia OC'ing Guide:

-Install your cards latest drivers.

-Install Coolbits.

Dragonheart - nice system! Update your sig to show that bad boy off!

I thought the 8800 series can currently only OC with nTune and not coolbits...might be wrong tho...
