I've seen people standing there for 45 minutes waiting for people to talk to before.

Haha, reminds me of the time when I asked Soyo about 4-pin MOLEX and they had no idea what I was talking about. Now thats BAD! :D

No, but there are people who absolutely have to have the highest 3DMark score on the block RIGHT NOW and will drop $500 on a GTS to tide them over for 2 weeks.
exactly

Well, in their defence, Molex is a brand-name. That company makes hundreds of different types of connectors... so I could see even someone in the industry getting confused. It's only people that hang out with computer hardware freeks and modders that know what a "molex connector" is.

Almost forgot, and back on topic: Does anyone know which contract manufacturing company screwed up. You know, like Foxconn, Celestica, Jabil, Solectron ect? Just currious since I work in the industry.

It's a molex!

It would be interesting to know whether the wrong resistor caused overvolting or undervolting, and what exactly gets over/under volted?

Also, I think on the main [H] page kyle says that Flextronics made the cards.

Guyssss Stop with all the random posts on this topic!!

There's a bet going on to see if it hits 25k views in 1 week. It's gun get locked!

What do gun locks have to do with it?

Edit - LOL, I was hackin' on the guys grammer and I made a grammatical error myself.
Oh well, win some lose some. :D

I dont know why you guys just dont wait for the new batch of cards. Buy a new one @ frys and swap the cards then return it saying you have an AGP system.
If I get what you're saying, that wouldn't work because the serial number on the box wouldn't match the actual card or the receipt.

Yea, Flextronics in China. Thanx yevaud, I missed that the first time.

I wonder how much re-testing they are going to haft to do after the change, how long it will take them to turn those cards around. If their lucky, it woln't require them to remove the heatsink, but unless its on the backside, I doubt it has video card heatsinks seem to cover the entire board now days. Oh well, that just means they will haft to reburn them all in.

Mr. 8800GTX Videocard, say hello to 8+hour 50degC torture testing, AGAIN!!!

Oh JRT. I was writing colloquially! I guess "gun' git locked" would have been better.

Silly JRT. Silly.

oh man dont get me starting, il say one out of about 20 times i have helped people at bestbuy because employees are so dumb.

i was looking for my new laptop, and i hear this lady ask is this laptop better or that one so he ask what price you want to pay she said about $1000 so this guy goes to a laptop that one should be good, she says that not what i ask i said between these two, so i said to my self go over there and show how its done. so i go to the lady you want to know what is better? she said yes, under $1000 so i pointed out some laptop (forget what i pointed out) but anyway long story short she walk out with the laptop in 5 mins and the bestbuy guy says how do know about this kid? i say read the small paper  at least read that... ;)

LOL, I did spell grammar incorrectly…WTF!

I know what you were trying to do dude.
When I read that I just had an image of Jackie Gleason saying “What’s the gawd damn Germans got to do with it anyway” :D

I’m not a grammar Nazi or anything, but I do find some things annoying as hell.
Like gay ass leet-speak and when people type out “r” instead of “are”, etc.
As if it is so hard to type out the whole word.

Oh Well thread derailment over.

Most likely by hand. I dont think there is such a machine...Plus replacing parts by machine subjects the entire card to "another" high thermal cycle. A by hand replacement only affects that single part.

QFT And its not hard to pull a resistor out and put a new one in. Its hard because modern day video cards are so fucking cramped with other shit. I would like to see a picture of the resistor in question and see if it can be able to be replaced manually.

mod cannot be performed without looking glass and/or professional/RoHS/ use at own risk

you know what i bet happened, judging on nothing other than my psychic abilities

the manufacturer used a resistor that was 'loose' (let's say within 5% indicated value, instead of 1%) to cut costs. and although it didn't cause errors on all boards, they cost justified the situation after testing a batch and found it would be cheaper to pull them all before hand and fix them ALL before everyone got them, and then one by one came back. saves nV and partners on individual RMAs, tech support calls, and PR.

but i could be completely wrong

give the kids a break, I work for geeksquad and watching the employee's sell, they dont no jack shit about computers, hell half the geeks i work with dont no shit.... But on the other end they have no training on computers at all for employees...

I love how "geek squad" (or at least the one at the local best buy) is full of like.. younger "glamour" girls that dont know a damn thing about a computer, much less how to fix it.

Seriously, I had to explain to three people in a row what a "BSOD" was before they figured it out. Even the geekier looking guys behind the counter didnt understand what I was talking about.

ya most people just do it for a paycheck, instead of having any computer passion...

Right, but why on earth would any computer store hire non computer oriented people to work their computer tech support counters?

from the hard front page

"We pinged the three leading suppliers of boxed retail and e-tail NVIDIA-based video cards in North America and asked them how the problems with the initial GeForce 8800 GTX video cards was going to impact them. This is what we heard back.

Dean Brady, Director of Marketing – BFGTech

BFG Technologies has worked closely with NVIDIA to correct a BOM error in initial units built by NVIDIA’s contract manufacturer. BFG and NVIDIA engineers have corrected the problem and tested all units in inventory. We are working diligently to recall boards that have shipped with this error. There will be clear markings on the fixed boards that BFG is implementing to allow consumers to easily distinguish which board they have. This will not delay the launch and customers can be confident that the products they purchase will be supported by BFG’s legendary support and true lifetime warranty.

Joe Darwin, Director of Technical Marketing – eVGA

EVGA is READY for Launch! EVGA has been working very closely with NVIDIA to correct an error in an early BOM list for internal testing, sample boards and a few review units. EVGA has tested and corrected the issue with its early boards and this will not delay the launch. EVGA is working with the review sites that it has sent boards to in order to get them updated boards so reviews can be posted on time. Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to a successful launch.

Ryan Dumas, Technical Marketing Manager – XFX

NVIDIA recently reported a BOM change for the GeForce 8800 GTX and thankfully we had enough advance notice that our consumer board shipments will not be impacted. The only effected boards were those very early samples sent out to the press. I have verified with my factory that every board shipped out for consumer purchase will have the change in place and this small hiccup will not affect the hard launch schedule."

they should specify that "every board shipped out for customer purchase that wasn't sold a week earlier than expected" will have the change in place, i highly doubt Mike and Decapitator got fixed cards seeing as how long ago they bought them, unless the change happened two weeks ago and we are just hearing about it

Because they can get no qualified people to work for the peanuts they pay.

Reguardless, I'm still going to return this card and buy one from Newegg to be safe. Who knows, maybe the card design will match the one on the box this time!

Mikes and Decapitors are probably Mint... The logistics of recalling every single gtx already shipped and then fixing them and getting them back out for wed. would be practically impossible.. there is no company or shipper around that could handle that type of undertaking at the dollar amount involved. 99% of most shippers do not work on sundays, so the shipments would of had to be picked and packed and shipped on Friday for an overnite Saturday delivery. Fixed and repacked and reshipped for a delivery on Tues or Wed morning the latest? Yeah right... there would be thousands of cards rolling in to the warehouse in one day to be fixed the same day? Not happening... two possible ways: 1. the current retail cards are being replaced with new ones by Wed. and retailers will ship back the ones they have now(not likely at all) 2. This like others have said has been already corrected prior to retail ship and we are hearing about it a week or more later. jmo

Well my card has had the artifacting and slowdown problems that have been decribed by other people owning the card, which can only be fixed by reinstalling the drivers. The difference is that it has happened only twice so far with my card, while others are reporting that it happens over and over again. I'm not going to take any chances and just return the card after I get a new one from Newegg.

GS starts out at $9.50, at least here in TN. Hardly anything on that paycheck :)

Are you kidding me? I've put in like 3 apps there. And I'm extremely qualified. I have an extremely vast amount of computer knowledge and background.. I dont even get an interview. :(

It sucks..

You actually are missing one vital requirement: stupidity. Without this, you may very well never get a job at Best Buy or CompUSA.

You're probably overqualified and they don't expect you to stay for the small amount they plan to pay you.
