The Xbox360 1080p software update just came out and the 1080p setting is in the xbox 360 menu, I have a dell 2407, xbox claims that you can do it over VGA and component, my 360 is plugged in with component, and when I switch it to 1080p the monitor says out of range, is there a way to do it with component, or does it even work with VGA?

The component/s-video/composite inputs are handled by a different chip than the vga/dvi ones so i wouldn't be surprised if its limited to 1080i over component. The monitor doesn't claim support for more than 1080i over component afterall.

The vga input should have no problem synching with 1920x1080 though, it can do that resolution coming from a computer at least.

The 2407 doesn't support 1080p over component (even 1080i doesn't work properly due to the way the monitor mishandles a 1080i signal)

Over VGA 1080p does work but it has problems. It can't do 1:1 pixel mapping in VGA mode as it's disabled so it stretches to 1920x1200. It also suffers from faint horizontal lines (can be removed by reducing sharpness but the 2407 doesn't remember the sharpness setting when you switch between modes. ie dvi<->vga)

Good luck finding something that accepts 1080p over component. Very little does.

But that doesnt mean the 360 doesnt support it ;)

I know Sony have HDTVs out that support it. If nothing did support it, MS wouldnt have bothered to add support.

Can anyone with a 360 and a VGA cable test 1080p?

I made the jump from 720P via component on my 2407 to 1080P via VGA. Works fine, just make sure to adjust the sharpness down to 30 every time you switch over, or else you get some minor horizontal lines across the screen

the vga cable supports 1080p on the 2407, it looks much better!

Aye, games look much much sharper now. Ghost Recon and Burnout really suprised me. Halo 2 looks almost as good as the PC version now! :D

Im glad to hear, Im thinking of ordering a 2407 and was wondering if games/dashboard looked sharper and not as washed out due to upscaling.

Edited for double post

Also has anyone tried it using a VGA -> DVI adapter and seeing if you still get the haircombing in 1080p?
