I've noticed latley thet alot of AM2 boards have an 8-pin connection on the board (usually near the socket) as well as the standard 20+4 pin main ATX connection. Some also have an additional 4-pin molex to provide some extra juice for SLI.

Am I missing somthing couse I don't see the 8-pin connector on many power supplies ?? only the 4-pin.

Please show me the light ....

Mike

i dont think so...i have a fairly new psu, see sig, and it doesnt have it..i think you can buy an adapter if you need it

Most new PSUs come with a 4 to 8 pin convertor for the system. I'm referring to the square 4pin connector, not the normal molex ones.

Its EPS.. 2 of the P4 connectors side by side, or a specific EPS power supply works.

My Enermax Liberty 500w came with the 8 pin connector, its a convertible type like the 20+4 . Computers are really starting to get very power Hungry lately seems like once a week a new type of power plug comes out.

Many of the new MBs have 8 pin CPU power connectors. My PC Power and Cooling came with an 8 pin>>4 pin adapter. I specifically looked for the 8 pin CPU when I upgraded my PSU.
You are correct, many SLI boards also have a molex dedicated to the MB for additional power to the GPUs in addition to the PCIe power connectors. :D

My Core 2 Duo motherboard (Abit AW9D) has an 8-pin connector, but it is backwards compatible meaning that it should work with just the 4 pin one plugged in. I know mine does. You might want to check with the motherboard manufacturer to verify that that is the case for yours or you should be able to purchase a 4-pin to 8-pin converter.

EPS power supplies have been around for a while, I had to pick one up for my Xeon box when I put it together in 2003, back when all regular motherboards just had 20+4. I assume it's the same standard, though older EPS power supplies obviously had no SLI, SATA power connectors, etc.
