I've looked at the stickied overclocking database and noticed that the max used vcore is 1.5v.

Well I'm trying to get my cpu to 3600mhz by 8x450 but at 1.5v the best I can get is a never ending loop of the bar scrolling across the windows loading screen. The ram isn't an issue as I can run 6x450 with no problem at all.

I must admit I'm a little afraid to try any higher than 1.5v because I don't know what the chip can take and I don't want to be the guinea pig. Does this mean my chip is less than an ideal overclocking candidate?

"less then an ideal" are you crazy! your trying for 3.6GHz, that is awesome. First off, what are your TEMPS (using core temp) @ 1.5Vcore? Im assuming your using air cooling right? If this is the case, I would see what your max 24/7 stable OC is using only 1.45Vcore (or less) and be happy with that. Im using 460FSB x 7 for 3.22GHz on my E6300 but using only 1.39Vcore. Main thing here is use "CORE TEMP" to see what your temps are, and if your happy with mid 50c+ idle temps, more power to ya brotha.

Well I'd like to try to reach my goal if at all possible. Just for you I put my voltage to 1.45 and bumped to 8x420 (430 and I get a rounding error). My temp is 55c load. We actually have quite similar setups. I set my sig so hopefully it will show on this message.

I guess what I'm wondering is why my cpu requires so much voltage. I would consider that a dud.

A dud would be a chip that cant run @ stock speeds ;) . What you have here is 1 screamin chip! If you cant get it stable @ 3.6GHz please dont complain (dont mean to be a di*k) but im sure you can find a happy median @ 1.45Vcore and be able to achive 3.4GHz+.

...says the guy with the 1.4ghz overclock. ;)

I just want to taste your sucess. :)

Yes, but my OC is done with low voltage, and proper cooling. All Im trying to tell you is 1.5v is a little scarey for air cooling on a 65nm chip. I could care less is you burn it up, break a pin off in the socket, or throw it across your room. Yes, I may have a 1.4GHz OC, but not all chips are = you know what I mean.

Man, I have to say..getting it to 3.6Ghz is good. You shouldn't really complain. I am stuck unable to get mine beyond 2.5Ghz. I am tie down by the DDR2-533 Kingston Value Ram, so can't get my FSB beyond 320. I am running it at 310 right now.

I might get up to 350 if I tweak the memory latency a bit. But have been too busy to even tired.

I am happy at 2.4Ghz now. It does nicely on most things I am trying to accomplish right now. I need to seriously replace my HDD soon, as I am still doing Ultra DMA 100 drives right now.

There is no complaint in my original post. I was just asking if there was anything I could try to get a higher clock or if I shouldn't bother. I did opt to buy the faster ddr2-800 ram so I was hoping to do some serious overclocking.
