Your Video Card Upgrade Ladder

To the thread creator... are you really that interested, and reading all of the posts?

Anyway, it was a pleasure posting mine, due to the refreshing of the nostalgic memories!

The next upgrade (very soon, in a matter of days.. ) should be getting another 7900GTX in SLI and an X1900XT for my wife's computer!

Wasn't too bad since at the time I was going on a turn based strategy gaming binge with total war and civ3. Plus, it ran BF1942 decently for the one LAN I went to with it. FPS was in the 20's @ 1024x768 with everything turned down.

Geforce MX400 included on first mobo
TI 4200 64 MB
9800 Pro 128 MB
7800 GTX 256 MB

next: 8800 GTX hopefully

Riva 128z -> voodoo banshee -> geforce 2 mx(plain first version) -> geforce 2 gts -> geforce 3 ti 200 -> geforce 5900xt -> geforce 6800 Ultra...

I did try a kyro 1 video card in there somewhere, but it wasn't for my main rig so I can't recall when exactly. All I know is the card physically burnt up due to normal use.

Main PC:
monochrome, CGA, EGA, VGA, Creative Video Blaster TNT 16MB PCI, Intel 8MB AGP (first AGP), Diamond 16MB AGP (don't know which model), Gainward Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB (thought that this was the shit when I got it), BFG Geforce ti 4200, BFG geforce fx 5900tx-oc, BFG (I'm loyal) Geforce 6800 OC (current)

My server:
ATI Rage 32MB --> Creative video blaster (my old one from main pc b/c it has no fan) --> Gainward Geforce 2 MX 400 -->ATI Radeon 7200 32 MB(silent)

Lappy:
ATI Radeon 9600 64MB

Not sure what junk my dad had in our PC before I started getting involved, but this is the path (for the family rig and later my own rig) as far as I can remember it:

Voodoo 3 2000
Voodoo 5 5500
NVIDIA Ti 4200 (bought for my rig bc NWN wouldn't work with my V5)
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (bought after the memory on 4200 died for some unknown reason)
EVGA 6800 GT (AGP)
EVGA 7800 GTX
EVGA 7800 GTX KO ACS3 (Step-Up)
EVGA 7800 GTX 512 (Couldn't resist so I sold the KO)
EVGA 7800 GT CO (Step-Up ran on the 512, sold it for $800 to get a new 3-month window)
EVGA 7900 GTO (Selling GT CO; should ship today and clock to GTX speeds :D)

It's scary that (once the GTO gets here) I've gone through 5 cards in a little more than a year (got the GTX back in 6/05). Of course, it's soon to be 6 if the 8800 GT comes out by Dec. since I'll be able to step-up (assuming it can best a 7900 GTX) :D

Integrated Graphics
ATI Rage 128
3DFX Voodoo 3 2000s (Don't remember the exact number) AGP
Nvidia Creative Geforce 2 AGP
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro AGP
Nvidia BFG 6800 AGP

I've been running my 6800 for awhile now. Definitely in-line for an upgrade of my entire pc but I doubt I'll break the bank for one of the G80s, probably a 7900 GS or a X1950 Pro.

Intergraph Voodoo3d -> Voodoo3 2000 PCI -> Creative Voodoo2 -> 3Dfx Voodoo3 3000 AGP -> Visiontek GF3Ti 500 -> BFG GF 5900 Ultra -> BFG 6800GTOC :cool:

Voodoo5
Geforce2 MX
Radeon All In Wonder 9200

geforce3 something or other in a gateway > 9700pro in a dell > 9800pro in that same dell since the 9700 fried > 6800gt pci-e in this rig i built [why did i pay 480 for it when it fiirst came out =x] and now im lost on what to get since its time for an upgrade.

saphire x1800xt 512mb (current card)

I've tried to keep from upgrading too often, last three upgrades were because of monitor upgrades. Bought the x1800xt for a new monitor, the 7800gt wasnt quite strong enough to run everything at 1680x1050 at decent speeds. I'll probably stick with the x1800xt til next summer, maybe next holiday season, I can't see any reason to upgrade yet.
