G8800 Series 3DMark06 Score

Wow. The Inquirer talking about 3DMark scores for a card that isn't out yet. That's like, 3+ levels of worthless.

Yep, and it's also like comparing 3dMark2001SE scores on the latest hardware.
I'm more interested in 3dMark07 scores from the inQuirer. Go ahead and photochop something up FUDO!

I dunno why people get down on the inquirer so much. They're right roughly as often as they're sensational and wrong, and either way it's a fun read. I mean come on, you didn't honestly expect a news outlet that goes by that name to be a bastion of responsible reporting did you?

In any case, CPU can definitely make a difference in 3dm06. Just upgrading from an X2 4200+ to a Core 2 E6600 put me from 7,000 to 8,100 on my 7950GX2, and I can feel the difference greatly in AI-heavy situations in Oblivion as well, so I wouldn't say that CPUs are meaningless in today's games. Hell, you can even go load up UT2k4 and start a botmatch with no bots, then add about two-dozen bots and watch your FPS drop quite a bit. That's a perfect example of CPU bottlenecking. Of course with a game that old, your frames are gonna be stratospheric anyway, but it's still a good example.

As for the supposed 12,000 score... regardless of what CPU that's on or how optimized the drivers may be, that's honestly not that impressive from a performance per watt perspective, if the rumors about G80 power consumption are to be believed. And whoever said a G80 will match 7900GTX SLI for half the cost must have some serious delusions about how much the 8800GTX is going to cost.

If the 12k is for real that's better than overclocked X1900 XT Crossfire on a 4mb C2D @ 3.6 GHz. Check XS for some scores.

damn, i think it's about time for an upgrade. i score like 370 on 3dm05 :( 06 probably wont even start the test, it'll just pop up a window saying "you lose"
