Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

westinghouse warranty is 1yr from what I've heard. Some credit cards extend that another year if you used your credit card. You'd have to check your credit card policies.

Here is a pic of one of the mounts.. $45 shipped

small_pic2.jpg

Hrmm when I called premiermountscentral inquiring about what adapter plate I'd need for the westy with that lcd arm I posted they said that arm prob wouldn't work for the westy 37 :(

They steered me toward a $320 heavy duty arm instead. I don't think I want to spend that much so I'll prob skip the arm for now

PE1121_l.jpg

If you do want that arm its SKU #PE1121 , and I was told you have to select the PLP V100 plasma screen mounting plate from the options to fit the westy.

According to BestBuyPlasma.com the westinghouse 37w3 is

Cabinet Color: Silver/Black
Installation Options 8 Hole pattern, 75mm x 75mm VESA® pattern, 100mm x 100mm VESA® pattern wall mounts

... so maybe I can shop around alittle. I like the smaller LCD arms I posted if they can work with this display somehow.

I did some more research about the mounting arms. I found some info on AVSforum. I'm going to write a private message to the guy who used the AM2 arm to see what he thinks of it now that he's had it awhile. I'm curious if the AM2 arm will support the set rigid and strong when the arm is extended (no dipping/bending/bobbing). In the only pictures the guy posted it looks retracted against the wall.

Meanwhile here are some informative quotes I found on avs forum:
__________________________________________________

To remove the stand
(it was wall mounted using a standard VESA mount)

"To take the stand off, you have to remove 4 screws along the spine. I posted that earlier but here is a recap (since this thread is HUGE!)

For anyone else curious, you have to remove 2 philips screws on each side along the spine near the bottom. The smaller screws at the very bottom don't have to be taken out.

^^ It will then pull right out and you'll replace the screws back on the spine."

---------------------------------------------------

VESA WALL MOUNTING (and the smaller AM2 swingout arm in my prior pics)

"Still struggling. Went to the hardware store and got M5 screws. They fit the Westy perfectly. Problem is, the holes in my wall mount (a Premier AM2, which rotates from landscape to portrait on demand) are now too small, so I've got to ream them out with a rattail file. It's been hot work, and I'm lazy, so I'm not finished with the reaming out yet."
_________
.. "so are we saying here that the 37w3 is in fact NOT vesa compliant? the manual and the website say the following:

Installation Options
8 Hole pattern, 75mm x 75mm VESA® pattern, 100mm x 100mm VESA® pattern wall mounts

at this point are you thinking its a problem with the mount or the westy?"
________
From what I was reading when I first ran into the problem with trying to secure the wall stand to the TV, the M4 hole is part of the VESA standard. The Westy's 100x100 and 75x75 pattern is plainly compliant and gives no problem. The problem is its M5 hole, but I think I've got the holes in the wall mount reamed out enough to work now. I'll see tomorrow.
_________
Some centuries ago (it seems, anyway) I posted that my new Westy had arrived and that I was having various problems getting it mounted. It's now on the wall and working. I'm going to try to post pictures of it here, but bear with me. This is something I haven't done before and I don't know whether I can bring it off on the first try.

I guess it worked. The main thing I'm trying to show is that the screen rotates from landscape to portrait. Back in the days before color monitors I had a black and white portrait monitor that I thought was the greatest thing for handling text. I handled a lot of text then and almost none now, but I'm looking forward to being able to view long documents as they should be viewed.

Jaw dropping ... wow. Thanks mucho for posting those. I can't wait to get mine! I'm going to look at the pics again when I get done writing this. :p

I'll follow up with more info on that AM2 hinged lcd arm if that guy who installed one onto his westy 37w3 replies to my questions eventually. For $75 it would be pretty cool to have for my setup.

nice pics, whats the pixel pitch like? it seems like you are looking up quite a bit doesn't that hurt your neck after a while?

Pixel pitch as in the space between the pixels? Well, where I'm sitting, I can't even tell or see the 'matrix' of pixels. I have to get close, at about 2 feet, and I have good vision (with my contacts in of course). As far as my neck.. yea, lol. I need to get used to it. I'm sure it will take a week. My neck is just a wee bit achy after playing games for 2.5hrs.

maybe you can adjust or even take off that extra level on your desk, would that help? it might bring your screen down 10"

nah, its fine. I could take off the top level, but then I would have less room for stuff, and the desk wouldn't look right because the right hand side would be uneven. I'll get used to it. I had to get used to my 19'' being up that high, so adjusting to this 37'' should be no problem. I won't even notice after a week. =)

Wait, you can do another computer PIP? Is that from DVI on the PIP? Omg.
yea.. you can do them side by side split screen too. I have the second computer going vga (which doesn't look very good), so I need to pick up another DVI cable. I might have one laying around though, I just need to find it.

I'm more about more monitors per pc than more pc's per monitor myself ;) Granted its still neat.

My server/file storage pc is upstairs so no way I'd be running a dvi or keyboard/mouse cable/usb cable that far. So thats no use unless I moved it down here with my main pc. No sense in running my gf's pc to the screen either. However there is probably enough screen on the westy to run a pc-anywhere or remote pc type desktop session in a window if I really want any of my other desktops for administration purposes without having them nearby...

I'm going to be running the westy in dual mode with my 24" widescreen crt so I really don't need pip or splitscreen for extra computer displays. The pip and split-screen will be really nice for other sources though , like my dish network HD box, maybe a console and a disc player eventually (maybe both in a ps3 someday not sure). :D !!

damn damn damn, technoweb is based in CA with a warehouse in TX.
$92 something for tax in CA or TX. Oh well still better than bestbuy or crutchfield

Guys, I'm still seriously thinking about getting one of these shipped across the pond. I have a couple of questions for you:

Does Westinghouse have a bad reputation for quality in the US (I know they are cheap) and do parts often turn up deffective and need returning?

Do they often have dead pixels?

What power arrangement does the 37 incher have? Is it a seperate DC supply that will take a normal PC power cable with 110-230VAC 50-60Hz? or 110 only? and if it is 110, what is the current draw? (or power requirement). I have a 110 converter for my current setup - built it whilst living in Canada and shipped back ... just wondering if its man enough for the job!

I'm going to hold out for atleast the next month on purchasing one, to see if Amazon.co.uk get any in (only UK supplier to have sold any Westinghouse at all). Hopefully there will be some more offerings in the 30+inch 1080p category by then too.

im in the same situation as you, i've got all these worries aswell, what i'm going to do is if i get it shipped out to australia im going to make the delivery guy wait until ive tested it for any defects (dead pixels, or is there anything else i need to check??)

I doubt it. Says 24th right on there anyway, probably a glitch with saying its out for delivery.

I called they said it means that the item has been pre-loaded by the night shift friday morning at 5am. Which I gather means its going to have been sitting in the truck all weekend, with the truck likely outside. It will probably arrive monday, one day early.

I'm just very eager to get it I guess. I should have had it several days ago if not for ups damaging the samsclub one I ordered.

I paid 1222.90 shipped from techonweb. They use fedex as their carrier and have a good seller rating so I figured I'd give them a try.

yeah J&R is a good price but I live in NYstate which means they would charge me 8.75% sales tax + UPS shipping (ugh UPS) ... total $1151.47 still better than my 1222.90 but I can live with it - hoping FedEx does a better job than UPS did this time around.

My fedex tracking has been updated to " Scheduled for delivery next business day " so that means tomorrow

Go to amazon.com and check out their price on this set (via j&r).

I jumped on it (not through Amazon though because I got the 5 year Repair Master in-home plan through J&R).

I'll be sure to post pics when it gets here!

Also, for those still drooling and counting their pennies, Westinghouse lets you print a life-sized W3 on paper so you can see how it would fit. Check it out on the right side: http://www.westinghousedigital.com/details.aspx?itemnum=56 .

Edit: Anyone want to buy an NEC FP2141SB quality CRT?

Well even though I could only get the W1 version here in Canada I picked one up at BB this morning and DAMN!!! I have been using a 2001fp for a couple years and I thought it was the shit, with the Westy, playing Oblivion at 1920 X 1080 with AA and HDR all I can say is WOW. I have a 1900xtx atm and can only imagine what it will look like if I end up getting a second GPU to xfire this setup...

All in all, VERY pleased thus far. Only one dead pixel, not even noticeable at the edge of the screen...

yeah really....900!!! thats sick.

I keep coming back to this monitor in my buy something now-wait dilemma as its the best of all the worlds right now i think...considering I want something for PC use, an Xbox 360 purchase this winter, as well as watching LOST, 24, etc in HD.

None of these other displays are as mulit-purpose as the westy or have some kind of glitch with them.

Damn you westy. I want u and cant just afford you right now. ARGH!

I have the same problem. I'm going to have to wait until next summer til' I can afford this beautiful monitor..

TIME TO BUY THE WESTY!!

The 37" is down to $1100 + $51 shipping at J&R and no tax (unless you are in NY).

Very hot price.

i havent been able to see what it can do just yet because my computer is down at the moment (on the laptop) so i cant hook it up to the pc, I just got it friday (10/20) and am getting cable HD service tomorrow (monday) so i'll be able to see what full hd looks like. I CANNOT WAIT to get the ps3 hooked up to it the 17th (3rd preorder) and see what the blu-ray talladega nights movie looks like on it that comes with the ps3...anyway im lovin it so far...as read in reviews before i bought it, the remote isnt all that, just a remote i guess..nothin special...had to get used to this huge thing in my room, last tv was a little 19" jammie, this huge thing looked strange in here at first but its cool now, i REALLY DO NOT understand how people use this thing as their computer monitor, i cant imagine bein 2-3 feet away from this thing for long periods of time playing a game or something....other than that im lovin it like the mcdonalds slogan

I hate you all. I am tempted to order this. Only a few problems.

Don't like the lack of packaging (Would have prefered a nice chunk of foam over the screen itself due to how I have to ship. Send to freight forwarder in Florida, who then flies it to The Bahamas, and then sends it on a freight boat to the island I live on. You can understand my feelings about packaging better now.)

I'll need a new desk.

It will bite into my Wii + Red Steel + Zelda + Trauma Center funds a lot.

To hell with it, Christmas bonus is only 2 months away. When I get home (on vacation currently) I am breaking out the measuring tape to see what I'll need space wise then look for a desk. (Might trade with my wife, not sure as I currently use a 2007wfp for my rig and a crappy 15 or 17" LCD I got for free on my 2 other towers (KVM) So the desk will need to have the space for the Westy and the second LCD to control the other 2 PCs.

I must say the J&R price on Amazon is nice. Order Total: $1,197.84 and that's 1-3 day expidited shipping. Knock off about $46 for standard shipping.

Now to convince the wife I need it. I have been telling her I want a Dell 2407WFP for a while now.

Updating with more results of my wall-mount search. Might be an option for you instead of a new tv stand too JR_Rider.

I found this model arm which is supposed to be stronger than the smaller of the last two mounts I posted which barely held 50lb and was reported to dip in a few reviews. This model Omni Mount CL-MP holds up to 80 lb. It costs more though at $145 + shipping ( ~ $20 ?) at buy.com

I'm going to see if I can find any LCD 'stand' mounts that rotate as an alternative but doubt I'll find any or any affordable.

CURSE YOU!! :D damnit... I was contemplating the new 20" then decided to upgrade for "a little bit more" to the 24" A03's... now I am cancelling the dell order (ordered it yesterday) for the 37"... I hope I am not dissappointed. I just couldn't stand all the chatter in regards to 1080p input over dvi w/ hdcp on the 2407s... and didn't want to take the chance.

I'm still undecided - I like the wall-mount swivel arms but I think I'd prefer the option of being able to easily move the monitor and possibly the desk someday if I want to, and not have to deal with mounting difficulites.

Although alittle expensive for my taste at $289 (at least its free shipping and no tax), I may have found a stand that would work for me.

TechCraft Swivel Base Flat Panel TV Stand (WSW37)

Fits 20"-37" flat panel TVs: This sleek glass and dark silver stand holds flat panel TVs from 20" to 37". The open-concept styling allows for easy wire management.

Swivel base: The swivel base lets you rotate your TV for easy viewing, no matter where you are in your room.

Adjustable shelves: Adjustable glass shelves provide plenty of room for home theater components.

Sturdy construction: This unit holds TVs from 20"-37" up to 75 lbs.

Dimensions: 48.5" x 24.3" x 20"
___________________________________________________________

* After looking at the specs I initially thought the stand would be much too high (at 48.5" tall) to sit in line with my computer desk but then I realized that the monitor sits against the back of the stand, not on top of it. So it would probably line up almost perfectly. My desk is 28.5" tall.

DAMN YOU!!!

And Thank you :)

Ordered, with the 5 year warranty. That PIP pic did it in for me. That's the one thing I wanted the most out of my LCD, that I never had.

Now to find someone who wants a 17" laptop and a 20" monitor...

That's a good deal. I can get that LCD plus a 5 year in home warranty for $1,331! Not too shabby.

Maybe I missed it, or maybe it's in another thread, but how is the sound on the Westy?

I've got some gimpy speakers at the moment, and using the Westy would clear up some more space...just curious how the speakers do for normal mp3 playback. I use headphones when I game, but would be interested in general thoughts on the audio anyway.

Ok one last recap on my mounting options. I thought I'd put my three final choices in one reply so I could maybe get some feedback before I order one. Hopefully my monitor will arrive safely today so I will be able to post actual pictures of it running later on. :)

I came up with this monster of a wall-mount that uses two studs. Its a Peeless PLA 50 with PLP V100 mounting plate which costs $319 w/ free gnd shipping

PE1121_m.jpg

PE1121_a.jpg

----------------------------------------------------------

A weaker single-stud wall mount is model Omni Mount CL-MP is supposed to hold up to 80 lb. It costs $145 + shipping ( ~ $20 ?) at buy.com

------------------------
And finally a TechCraft Swivel Base Flat Panel TV Stand (WSW37) for $270 - $290.
