REvised my setup...what do you think?...

You probably (definitely) want to find a better power supply for that setup. As anyone will tell you, the 420W Aspire one is a POS. Buy a cheaper Microfly (case only), then find yourself a nice Seasonic PSU for it.

Can I just buy a different PSU for the case I have...if so which one would you recommend?

You can get a 400/500w Enermax Liberty which fit really nice. I have an Antec 500w Smartpower 2.0 that fits well too. I would suggest getting the Microfly case as stated above since it comes without a powersupply, is cheaper, and an inch longer to enable for more of a selection of powersupplies.

Also, are you sure that OS will work with these components? I was under the impression that that OS was for Apple based hardware only... Just a thought

Good Luck!

I have the same setup except a sg-01, seasonic psu, 7200.10 hd, and windows.

It's a great setup, but I have had some problems with video, everynow and then the monitors will lose signal and turn off for a few seconds or less. Usually happens in windows, not during a game, may be a heat issue.

good luck

Just cause your using a core 2 doesnt mean you can run mac os...i dont think?

Really?...I am under the impression you can, maybe I am wrong...if so what else do I need?

you cannot run the mac os without some modifications. You cannot buy a disk and assume it will work.

First off, Apple's Macs with the Intel Core Duo's use an EFFI BIOS and not a standard CMOS. Second, the EFFI validates that you can run the OS. You cannot just pick up off the shelf parts and build a Mac clone. Wish it were that easy.

does newegg not sell microflys?
not yet, and the Mac OS X, i wouldnt even try it, unless you are really set on it and willing to do alot of mods.

AFAIK, If you have a legal copy of OS X, you can do whatever you want to do with it, you have paid for it so you can install it in any machine you want. You can also patch it to use it on non-apple hardware, you just can't expect Apple to provide support before/during/after the process.

FYI, nvidia cards are a no-go ATM, you are best off with X1800XT/X1900XT for proper use...

edit : I suggest that you only use OS X as some experimental thrill rather than a fully functional OS that will meet all your needs from your PC. Windows is still much better for gaming and you can install/remove/change hardware without worring about functionality upgrade after upgrade.

I think Apple has benefited from this hacked OS X more than one could imagine when it first was released. Many and I mean MANY people rushed to buy Apple products after trying OS X on their PCs. Sales of lower end products like Macbook and MacMini have benefited the most from this IMHO.

The P5B-VM motherboard seems like a good choice but noticed this
on the eggs web site

"Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets."

The Corsair memory you linked to is rated at 1.9V, so this could be an issue
if it's real touchy?

I'm very interested in a similar setup myelf, but I'm leaning towards to the
SG01e case at this point.

I have the exact same RAM that the OP linked installed in a P5B-VM and it works perfectly. I also have an E6600 and a 7900GTO with a 74Gb WD Raptor and a 300Gb Seagate with an NEC dvd burner and it will fits into my SG-01 without a problem.

I also have this this PSU and this underneath it for my CPU cooler.

It's very powerful and quiet and it takes so much less space than my old Lian-Li v1100. Now that I've gone SFF I don't think I'll ever go back.

Super, thanks for posting this. I'm edging more and more towards the SG01 case for sure
now & this motherboard.

If I might ask, do you see any space issues for even bigger PSU's and new vid cards like the new X1950 PRO ? What voltage are you running your RAM?

I read the review over at the ssffclub web page on this case and it looks fantastic.

This system would replace my desktop I have in my sig system #2.

negative, it's rated to 1.95volts, and that's according to the manual.

I have it installed on my laptop, it took me a few tries to get it right, mostly cause I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. You need to find a modified OSX .ISO file, you can't use a stock disc and have it work. The ATI x1600 Pro is the only fully supported card at the moment, nVidia cards do work with the macVidia driver, but not 100%. I would recomend sticking with Windows and just installing OSX on the side to play around with, I find myself rarely using it. The supported hardware list is on the OSX 86 wiki, that should be enough to get you started if you want to go through with it.

I don't know, but my E6700 and Asus P5BVM arrived yesterday. I am also using the Corsair C4 6400 XMS modules, but at 4.4.4.12 instead of the 5.5.5.12 kit. Right now, I have memtest running for 3 hours without error. I hope to do the motherboard swap by Monday if all my tests go well.

I've also had CPU daemon running just to make sure that the two play nice together, but so far the Corsair and Asus boards are playing nice with each other.

Interesting, thanks for posting. I've asked Corsair what they recommend and they said this stuff:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145098&ATT=20-145-098&CMP=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r

But, I've found this and it would be better but the price is very high.
It's on the QVL I beleive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145153

CM2X1024-6400 5-5-5-12 800 Mhz
XMS6405v5.1
XMS2-6400
1.9 V

Is there a big difference between DDR2 667 & DDR2 800?
What Corsair are you using exactly?
Model number & linkage please?
I've always used either Corsair or Crucial in the last few years of building but
I'm open to suggestions. I'm not concerned about OCing just want best
stability and heat build up.
