!!!UPDATE!!!

Ok, changed my mind and went with this deal.

frys b&m. core2duo e6300, ecs P4m800pro-m 159.99

picked up a zalman CNPS9500 AT for it. 49.99

This board allows me to move my agp x850xt pe 256mb into it, move the 2 gig ddr I have into it (1gbx2), etc...

I am upgrading from a socket 754 Athlon64 3200+ to this.

I should see an improvement in performance, right?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need to know if this is a good deal, was going to pick it up today.

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6300 Box CPU
& MSI P965 Neo-F Intel® P965 Express
Socket LGA775 ATX Motherboard

CPU & Motherboard Combo:
FRYS.com #: 4994401

279.99

newegg has it a few cents cheaper... inc shipping to my door. Don't know if tax is a factor for the state you live in.

Reviews on bcchardware (it was one of the only reviews I could find) say its pretty stable, but not a good overclocker. I don't have the board so I couldn't tell you.

Not much info, but hope it helps.

What are you running right now? It may or may not be an upgrade considering how poor (on average) that board overclocks.

I am running an Athlon64 socket 754 clawhammer 3200+ on an abit NF8 w/ 2 gig ram.

That's a pretty good deal. I got the E6400 + Asus P5NSLI for $359.00 or something like that...

Can I expect to get any decent overclock with the combo I bought? I also purchased the zalman cooler: Zalman CNPS9500AT Socket LGA775 CPU Cooler . The case is an antec lanboy case w/ 2 120mm fans (one front, one back)...

Need some help with what software to use to monitor overclocking results and temps, etc... Please advise. I pickped up CoreTemp, is that good?

I got the same mobo+e6400 last week for $230 at local Fry's.
The mobo is rock stable at stock. I was able to O/C it to 282MHz FSB MAX....
Not a lot but still something. I was able to reuse my 1Gig PC3200 and AIW x800xt.
All with stock cooler. The heat is definitelly not an issue at speeds like that, so you kinda waisted money on the Zalman. Stock cooler is very quiet and it does the job.
So that was my run-in with that mobo. 5 days worth of to be exact.... Why, you ask? Well, I spent too much time on here and on other OC forums, and I got envious of all the overclocking I was missing out on with C2D... So, here I go back to Fry's, pick up DS3, 1Gb Patriot 667 RAM, and my first PCI-E video card X800GTO.
Now I'm running my E6400 at 2.8GHz with 1.33V (1.325 is default), 350MHz FSB. My inner-OC deamon has been finally satisfied.... :p
To sum it up: the ECS+6300 combo will DEFINITELLY give you a nice boost. Overclocking-wise, there is a little bit of room to play if youre an O/C n00b, but if you have been O'C-ing for the last 10yrs (like me), it won't do..!!!!!!

It was an OEM chip, so it didn't come with a stock cooler. I had to buy something :)

Well at least you have a good heatsink for when you get a decent motherboard for some serious O/C-ing...:)

Yup.
I went form Prescott [email protected] with 1GB PC3200 and x800xt to E6400(stock) on the ECS board, and I gained a 2k on 3Dmark01 and ~300points on 3Dmark05. Overall responsiveness of the system remained the same, but the heat (!!! with Prescott) is gone, and I love it. My video card is a huge bottlenek for newer games, but then again, I still play Q3, SOF2, and buncha other Quake2 engine based games.... :D.
So I went from Abit IS-7/[email protected] >>> ECS + E6400 (282MHz SFB) >>> DS3 + E6400@ 2.8GHz.... Can't complain... ;) Ohh, I did all that on the same WinXP install... Quick and easy... Except I did have to reactivate 2 times over the phone with MS...
Have fun with your new setup.

Mike

I did a fresh install going from amd to intel and all.... My main HDD is 2 36 gig 10k raptors in raid0. That makes a dif too if you ask me.

I got it to 284x7 so far. 1988.02mhz on a e6300. Not sure what to try next. 285mhz bus rebooted. I have all sorts of voltage options on the ram and cpu, etc.. Also, I have options to set the ram at whatever (I have at auto right now).
