Looking to mount a Whitewater waterblock on a socket A mobo, but I do not have the holes normally used for mounting a heatsink. All I have is the socket tabs. For those who dont know it and wont follow the link, its a rectangular block with a universal mounting plate (or not).

Is there a way to mount this block using the socket tabs? Even a custom or hand built (by me) solution is fine.. Or should I just look for another block as this may not be possible?

Here is a pic of my motherboard, as you can see no traditional mounting holes.

I was considering getting a whitewater and modifying the DangerDen socket A hold down setup to work with it:

Since the mounting holes on that hold down setup line up with socket A mounting holes, it might be done without any modification. Unfortunately, they're out of stock at DangerDen :(

EDIT: I guess I should mention that I use the socket A lug hold down setup on my TDX, and it works great.

I had a Koolance CPU-300-V13 Waterblock, the Socket A adapter came with the waterblock.

The problem with the Swiftech design is that it won't work for a 3 barb waterblock. But you might be able to make a replacement for the USMA plate on the WW that would use the tab connectors from the swiftech hold down. It could be done pretty eaisly, I suspect.

Taking a liking to the swiftech holddown method. Would need to make a replacement plate and find the clips (or something like it). Looks like that would work, and I believe I have the tools/talent to do that.

The tdx socket A holddown is an option, if this swiftech method doesnt pan out like I hope it does. tdx style seems alot less elegant, but still worth consideration. Haven't yet looked, but recommendations on where to find or how to fabricate those clips used by swiftech would be useful. Even a clear pic or engineering drawing would be appreciated.

Thanks for the responses.

Just take yourself a little trip over to Swiftechs web site and order the brackets direct..pretty easy really................ They cost like $5.00 for the pair including the screws and springs.

Alphacool also sells tab brackets that might work with a bit of modding, just look around a little at the different block makers, you'd be surprized as to what is floating around.

PolarFlo also used to make a tab mounting system a while back, you might want to try contacting them as well.

Looks like the alphacool mount is out - that cross bar would be going right through the center barb
I would get some 1/2" or 3/8" Plexi/Lucite and make your own system with the Swiftech brackets.

Ye with the lack of imagination..........;) Just cut out the center bar on the one I pictured, enlarge the center so all the barbs clear drill 4 holes and back 4 screws with nuts and screw it down equally on the top plate on the block. super easy really, at least in my eyes.............:)

Doesn't take a lot of work to mount any sort of socket "A" block, but then again I have around a half dozen around the house.
