Allow me to explain:

I recieved an X1950XTX as an RA replacement for a dead X1900XT. But sadly the swine never gave me discs. Worse yet standard CAT drivers wouldn't install so I figured it must have been a one-off pre production engineering sample or something dodgy like that. I could take it back, wait another month and get it sorted, or, bugger it, I'll make this bastard work! So I got stuck into various Catalyst 6.8 driver install files and in the end they recognised the card and installed.

Benchies looked good, everything works woohoo!!!!

Only later to find, CAT 6.8 don't work with X1950XTX's. ooops I did something really clever

So now the 6.9's are out, applied the same changes to the same files and yes we have a winner.

Are there any X1950XTX owners out there who want the fix?

be warned 3Dmark05 and 3DMark06 won't allow compare posts onto the internet as they think you've got hacked drivers.

Here it is :D

Modded CAT 6.9 Driver

All I've done is add the X1950XTX details to various INF files, nothing fancy.

* Download the WDM and Catalyst Control Centre installs separately from the ATI web site.

* Install the modified device driver
* Install 6.9 WDM drivers
* Install 6.9 Catalyst Control Centre
* Reboot
* Enjoy

I installed the x64 6.8's off the net when I got my x1950xtx. Everything worked fine, no hacks involved. Did I get lucky?

I had the same problems... INF Error. I'll try these drivers tonight.. Thanks man! It's rough having bleeding edge technology *cry*

that's the error I got, and fixed, hope it works for you :D

I had the same error with the 6.8s, haven't tried new 6.9s yet. I ended up getting a beta 6.9 yesterday from station-driver. I'll grab this just in case, thanks!

Thanks man....works like a charm!!!

A must to install 6.9's if you are playing UT2004. (even though I Got the 6.9 UT2k4 fix just by throwing the ati3duag.dll into the windows/system32 folder).

6.8's had a horrid stuttering bug in UT. And I could swear that Dark Messiah of Might and Magic's fps was pretty bad on 6.8 even when I disabled the "Use hdr (full)", while on 6.9, disabling that made 6x AA,16x hq AF very fast (I was even able to throw in adaptive AA with only a small hit).

Now its possible that steam kept resetting that HDR switch to on for some reason, but I don't *think* it was...

anyone want to point me to some x64 6.9 modded drivers for the x1950xtx. :)

Check back in 14 hours time. I've just done them but don't have FTP access to my web server for another 12 hours.

The X64 X1950XTX CAT 6.9 Drivers are now available, grab them HERE

and follow the same procedure as the 32 bit ones detailed in my original post.

For those who like the X32 NON CCC version of the drivers where the settings are integrated with no need for .NET 2.0 as shown here http://www.ngohq.com/showthread.php?t=7587 I've added the X1950XTX details to them and they are available HERE

cheers guys

You are a god, I'm saving these incase I get an order for an X1950XTX, which i gurantee i'll get in the next week!

Well I needed the x64 modded cats. The drivers I got from ATi's website didn't work.

codebasher you saved my weekend thanks a bunch for the drivers they worked like a charm.

You ROCK! when my x1950 came in, I searched forever and found your 6.9s the second day!

Would you mind putting up the chuck patched 6.9s? You can get them from the ATI website, under an advanced search for "chuck"

You the man!! I registered just to post this.

Also, would you mind telling us how you did it? I tried modifying my inf files with the x1950 lines from your inf, and couldnt get them to work properly

Thanks!

Alex

x64 Chuck patch with X1950XTX support HERE

x32 Chuck Patch with X1950XTX support HERE

I'll explain how I did the INF files later, I'm out of time

cheers

Thanks man...for some reason those files came through small (at least the x32) came through as 3.3mb with a CRC error in the zip..

I wish to hell video card manufacturers would post the drivers for their new cards on the website the day of or even before the launch of the card. This is the SECOND time I have had this issue.

I had to wait a day or two at least from the time I bought my 7900GTX before I could get Windows XP Professional x64 Edition drivers for it. Even then I had to grab beta drivers. There were no official drivers.

I bought my first 7900GTX the week after they launched, or two weeks later or something like that. My X1950XTX, I purchased about a week ago and I am not sure how long they have been available, so I can't say on that. The fact that you can't get fully supported working drivers off the website at this time is appaling to say the least.

I find it amazing that it all falls down to humble sods like me to get this stuff to actually work. Though I'm really only a glorified script kiddie it's nice to make a difference every now and then.

My only other claim to fame was when BF2 came out, large map COOP support was deliberately left out for multiplayer games, so I was so happy to fix their wagon by getting that up and running with a number of mods at the time.... :D

That is very nice of you, codebasher. Wish I had a X1950XTX so I could play with your drivers.

Thanks so much for that! I've got a X1950XTX coming tomorrow and the first thing I usually do when I get a new card is hit the web for drivers. This post saved me from lots of confusion I'm sure. :)
