Does anyone have any experience with CyberPower Laptops? I'm looking at getting a laptop in the near future and don't want to deal with Dell, Gateway, etc. If I can't find a standard Windows based laptop thats good and that I like, I'll probably end up getting an Apple MacBook Pro but I'd like to spend less money.

Dude don't buy from cyberpower. Read HardOCP's review here:

Oh and why not Dell or Gateway? Dell's Laptops are superb unlike their PCs. HP also hase good deals from time to time. If you look around in brick and mortar stores like Best Buy, CompUSA or Frys, they usually have a really good deals for Toshiba laptops. Just last week my sister bough a Toshiba laptop at Frys with a 1.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1GB of Ram, 100GB Hard drive and a 14.1 Inch screen for only $899.

my local bestbuy just opened and due to their lack of transflash cards i doubt i will be going in there again. i'll look at gateway though. one plus about cyberpower would be the fact i could get it with no os.

ok, gateway is out since you have to get a 17" to get decent graphics. guess its dell for me..............

Take a look at what ibm/lenovo has to offer if you are going to be spending that much. The X60 is really nice and can do something like 6-8 hours on the extended battery along with it being super small. I also love the support ibm has, last support call I had a part overnighted in under 15 minutes (including hold time) and the guy was based in the US meaning I could actually understand what he said.

problem with lenovo that i'm seeing right now is the fact that at best they offer a 7300gs turbo cache video card :(

for over 3 grand and you just get a go7600 from sony? thats completely not worth it imo. and its not true that lenovo offers 7300 vid card as the top. look at my sig, the top card is the ati Firegl v5200 which is a workstation certified card. quality is just top notch and best keyboard i've ever used. IPS screen means you can view at it from ANY angle and it'll look as if you're viewing it head on.

but i beleive the OP is after a vid card that will run games very well. I was under the impression that workstation certified cards do not handle videogame graphics wrong, but please prove me wrong as I will be in the market for a good laptop this summer (before grad school) and this would be good to know. I do beleive I have read the the ati Firegl v5200 is fairly equivalent to a x1600pro (is that true?).

But if the ati Firegl v5200 can handle games pretty well, it looks like a really good laptop.

For $1999 you can get a Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722. That is a 17" Widescreen laptop with a 2GHz Intel Core Duo 2 Processor, 2GB of RAM, a Nvidia Geforce Go7900 GS Video Card, and a 200GB hard drive. It is the best deal I've been seeing from a major manufacture for some performance on a budget.

I remeber reading a review somewhere where somebody bothered to try benchmarking a Quadro against a Geforce card, but I can't find it at the moment. The general conclusion was that you could game quite well with a Quadro, but it wasn't really worth the additional cost to buy a Quadro for a system you would be just gaming with.

problem is, i don't want a 17" if i can avoid it. i'd much rather have a 15.4" widescreen since they are easier to carry around.
