Ive been a long time Winamp user. but as of late (ok its been years now) winamp has started to suck and crash and do stupid things.

im in the market for a new music player. i personally hate how WMP organizes files. i have all my music organized in nested folders

genre
-------->artist
-------------------->album
-------------------->album 2

-------->artist2
-------------------->album
-------------------->album 2

genre2
-------->artist
-------------------->album
-------------------->album 2

-------->artist2
-------------------->album
-------------------->album 2

i have next to no id3 tags as most of the music i ripped from my own cds.
i have no playlists i just want to drag a folder or set of folders onto a player and hear music. i dont want to it ask to find the album, or sign up for the band news letter or refinance my mortgage.

whats the best player for my needs these days.

Take a look at WMP11.

been using it on my Vista RC-1 Build 5600 box

F'in HATE IT

will look into foobar again i used it many many moons ago and wasent a huge fan but ill try it

Foobar does sound like the best option for you.

Definately FooBar 2000, Not only Does it have great sound playback, its way more customizeable.

Why v0.8.3 over newer versions?

At one point the 9.x version was missing a lot of features like ASIO output, etc. Most of that has now been taken care of.

Thats the same program and version I use. I like this version because I have a custom CFG file for it that allows the background and fonts to be a different color and as the others have said, its way more customizable.

Winamp with iZotope Ozone...Nothing comes close. Try it. Foobar is ok, but too light interface for me.

May be a little high on CPU with 24-bit enabled, along with higher mem usage, but It sounds 10x better than normal players. I feel like I bought 10 dollar trashcans without Ozone on.

I have to second MediaMonkey it has the best sorting of your music without having to figure out how to custmize the hell out of foobar which I never figured out although ive tried multiple times. It will sort your music any way you want in an explorer type view.

foobar 0.9.1. I spent about 2 days i think messing with it. Then i just found other people's configs.

MediaMonkey has asio output too once you install the plugin. I like the search feature in Media Monkey also. I've used Foobar and like it.

I use to use Music Match Jukebox, I really liked it, but Damn, That company nags you more than any other I have seen, and I was not about to but Version X so that I would get nagged 2 weeks later to buy Version X.0000000000001. I dont know what was up with them changing versions every week, I dont think anything was differant but the version #.
Now I use WMP 11.

itunes, but i'm trying to switch over to foobar...only thing is, i have no clue how to customize it like the guys in teh previous posts did
slightly off topic, but any of you think you could help me out? thx :D

Columns UI + Azrael.

Foobar for simplicity and sound quality, WinAMP for prettyness.

Ever since I started using foobar about a year or two ago, music has just sounded so much better for me.

I refuse to use anything else now. And yes, I've used WMP and Winamp before.

Foobar for its customization and how easy it is to convert files

I was listening to this album when I looked at your post. Creepy.

suprised with how many people using foobar. might have to try it out, although I just figured out how to stream my own music online with winamp and shoutcast, is there a simple alternative with foobar?

iTunes is great, its very easy to sort and categorize, search within iTunes, it can automatically organize your music into folders.

Music->
Artist->
Albums->
Songs

And all you have to do is to drag an drop it onto iTunes, it is a bit hungry on memory though.

Winamp 2.9 is good.

i just started using foobar and the interface and sound quality is great. Only problem is that the sound level is very low. If i turn my speakers up all the way its semi-loud, andi know they play much louder in WMP. What am i missing?

Windows Media Player 11 beta 2

only thing I dislike about beta 2 is that it does not sync with my iPod. Beta 1 did, for some reason beta 2 doesn't want to... hopefully this will change with new software release.
