Which Conroe board for 7950 GX2?

Ok, I had utter hell with this AB9 Pro and my 7950 GX2, so the AB9 is being RMAd.

Any recommendations on a good replacement board? E6600 CPU and 2GB of CAS4 Patriot DDR2-800 (2x1GB). I've been recommended the P5W-DH, but that's rather crazy-priced.

Hope this is the right forum, question sorta straddles a couple forums.

Yeah, would just be a single 7950 GX2.

Between this and the DQ6 I guess.

Those are about your best choices. Though if you are going with a single GPU, you might want to look into the Gigabyte DS3 or the ASUS P5B Deluxe.

I was just going by their Compatibility list.

Then again the AB9 Pro was on it and it didn't work.

I'd have to recommend the P5W DH Deluxe board too. My 7950GX2 and E6600 Conroe love it, well that's what the benchmarks say anyway ;)

Cheers.

P5W DH Deluxe for anything but SLI. :)

Then there is stupid hack for that too, but otherwise it's a no-brainer. I was hoping this would be the first board to do all dual gpu solutions when AMD+ATi got together, as in nvidia would respond.

Running Crossfire XT's on mine and a 42" Westy. I'm so sick of DFI etc bullshit. This intel/asus solid as shit and while expensive when you open the box you can't help but get a feeling of "you get what you pay for." (Remote, integrated nic, fan for your passive chipset sink if you so desire).

Thanks for the information. :) P5W-DH Deluxe it is, then.

Mostly worried about compatibility I suppose, and this board will obviously have no issues. The ICH8 and memory stuff on the 965 boards doesn't seem to benefit much yet anyway.

halo, what ram are you running with your setup? just curious cuz im about to buy the same system as you, already got my 7950 gx2 though. :)

I do not know about halo but i highly recomend the mushkin if your going to oc. I had to go spd to remain stable at 3.6 (55512) butthe dims holds 44310 at 3.2gz with a touch of extra voltage.

mushkin is about $100 more than the ocz xtc 6400 stuff i was looking at. I'm not planning to overclock much, if at all. The reason I ask is because I can't find a memory compatibility list for that p5w dh.

You may want to try the memory forum. I have heard some boards do not like the lower cost stuff. You will get your answers there. I just checked the mushkin site, omg! its over 100 more than i paid just 3 or 4 weeks ago. I do not blame you. It sucks when the memory and mobos start costing more than the cpu's. When will the madness stop?

Hi HotShotMedic,

I'm using a 2GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 DDR2 RAM kit. My supplier has Corsair so I get it at cost price. I've used that brand in all my machines in the past so I didn't want to change for this system.

This RAM is on the list of supported modules for the board too so I knew that I wouldn't have any trouble with it.

FYI I get ~15,000 in 3D Mark 05 and around 9000 in 3D Mark 06.

Cheers.

P.S. If you go here, on page 44 you'll find the memory compatibility chart. http://tinyurl.com/opojr
