computer posts, boots, and logs into windows fine.
once the windows start up noise plays, regardless whether speakers or headphones are hooked up or turned on, it blue screens for a second, then restarts.

when i go into bios and disable the onboard sound (Which i am using till i can buy a new sound card) the computer will not blue screen

amd 4400+ x2
asus a8n sli premium

using the onboard ac '97 sound, just updated to the most recent drivers

anyone ever hear of this problem or have any suggestions as to how to fix it

remove the windows startup noise (control panel/sound/sounds tab)? if your certain its the onboard sound and nothing else, try a bios upgrade? all drivers uninstall correctly, use old drivers? driver cleaner? format =)

windows will only load with onboard sound disabled. i tried turning off the windows startup noise but it still wont work.

when i get back on (in class right now) i will try older drivers.

im planning on buying a sound card anyway so i think it may be best to just keep it disabled and buy the card now.
