Im starting a thread listing all the software that doesnt work with Vista. He is what I have come across so far:

Symantec AntiVirus
McAfee Antivirus
Sonicwall VPN
Webroot Spysweeper
Coolbits
RivaTuner (some stuff works, but not all)
Nero (RC1 made me uninstall)
Alcohol 120 (RC1 made me uninstall)
Any VNC software I have tried

Add McAfee to the list.
McAfee doesn't work under any OS. Well, okay it works, but why bother? McAfee makes Norton's home line seem streamlined!

McAfee got a trojan that Norton couldn't on my rig. I'll use it till the next problem occurs (which at my rate is once every 5 years or so)

McAfee is latin for Bloatware. They also consistently score at the bottom of any type of comparison testing. I'll stick with Symantec Corporate for work, Live OnceCare at home. AVG works well, very well actually, if something free is desired. McAfee has caused more problems in the past for any computer I've encountered with it installed than it's worth.

nero 6.6.1.4 works ok. windows tells you there are compatibility issues, but it seems to run ok for me. the newer nero (7) doesn't even install right for me

I have Nero 7 installed just fine. A dialog came up telling me there could be compatibility problems, but the installation went off without a hitch. And I'm able to run the program just fine.

Hmmmm. When I upgraded it told me I had to remove it before it would upgrade. I will try to install it now that Vista is installed and see what happens.

Installed 6.6.0.4 and then updated to 6.6.1.4, so far, so good.....yeah it complained....but it's working. OH YEAH, don't try to use the "nero start smart" app, just use the nero.exe and it works fine.

Rhapsody music service does not work either. This is my main streaming/purchasing app for music, so it kinds of sucks that I can't use it.

It's not quite software, but my drivers for wireless in a Centrino laptop won't load.

NV's latest 96.33 video drivers for Vista = "no go". Tried using the setup program, tried extracting the drivers then updating manually, both result in a BSOD at reboot. Booting into safe mode and removing the NV driver solves the problem. Ergo, the NV driver is the problem, guess I'll wait for the next version.... *sigh* sometimes Beta's make you cry, considering everything else I have is working great!

I shitcanned Vista last night and went back to XP. Until some of my more important apps work, I'll run it in a virtual machine.

That's why I dual boot XP and Vista....when Vista is ready and EVERYTHING I need works, I'll bump XP, but that is going to be some time, probably a month or two AFTER Vista can be purchased....

I'm quoting myself as an update. I ran the setup.exe in XP compatibility mode, and it worked fine. Woot for Vista wireless.

Unfortunately, I did the same thing today.

Really I just got tired of Itunes not working, Counterstrike crashing, and Dreamweaver losing my passwords and preferences.

The latest Creative X-Fi driver on Creative's site...doesn't work at all for me. Won't even install properly.

I think you're expecting alot of stability from a beta OS. If this was a full retail version i would consider that unnaceptable, but its still in beta and about 4-5 months out.

concerning Symantec Antivirus for Vista RC1, here's an e-mail I got from Symantec:

A SAV 10.2 beta will be released on the 19th that should work for you.

Are you assuming or asking? Before you continue down the path of assumption, I was the first person to post pictures of the 5536 build on the forum. I'm well aware of what a beta OS is. I also know when to step back from it and wait till a more mature version is out.

Vista is pretty, but not ready.

If people don't announce what does/doesn't work, they'll never have a finished product now will they?

Shouldn't you be announcing these problems to microsoft? Unless i missed something big this forum has no association with Microsoft.

I think you've summed up why so many people are getting frustrated on here. The point of the beta is to download it, run it on a test machine, and report problems back to Microsoft....not start threads trying to solve issues with Vista running on a production machine. The entire purpose of beta testing is lost in the translation from real world to [H] world.

Thanks for putting into words what i could not.

radmin works with vista (just posting in reply to the vnc issue.)

I think that VNC Viewer worked for me. I remember downloading it on my vista box, but maybe I didn't actually use it!

I can understand VNCServer not working though.
