Ok, After almost two months, my computer has finally been built. I bought the wireless card and everything tonight and just turned it on and what do i see but an error.

Something like

Intel CPU error
CPU Fan not working

Something along those lines. I have an e6300 with a Scythe Ninja. Should i re-do the heatsink and fan? Should I check the processor to see if it is in right?

Edit-- I get to a screen that says "Put in a boot disk and press a key to continue."

But when I put in my Windows Disk nothing happens. Any ideas?

All the fans are working fine, everything seems ok. Should I just reset the chip?

Help please!

make sure you have your boot order correct try to boot from the cd first and the hard drive 2nd
if your getting a cpu fan error make sure you plugged your fan on the right header on your motherboard thats labled cpu fan or just ignore the cpu fan monitor in the bios

oh and make sure your bios is indeed detecting both you hd and cd/dvd rom drives

Ok the fan error is gone. I Do not think that it is reading my CD Drives because I see nothing in the BIOS about it. (My first time ever even in a BIOS) The second Drive isn't even working. The first one comes out but nothing happens when the disk is in.

I am left with this error with the Cpu "Cpu UCode error"

No idea what that means. Should i re-do the heatsink?

Edit -- How do I update my BIOS? Could be the problem right?

make sure you have your cd drive jumpered corectly master slave or CS
is it on the ide chain alone? or are you using ide hard drives as well?

but if your gettin Cpu UCode error you probably need to update your bios. what mobo are you using? and what is the bios revison? it will say when you boot.

what motherboard and bios version do you have right now

ok saw your edit. do you have a floppy drive attached? and or maybe another socket 775 cpu? non-conroe?

P5B and bios # 0170

date = 6/27/06

No idea what to do from here...can't find where to update

oh damn no floppy !
got any friends with socket 775 processors that are non conroes?!

well ive been reading that bios does support your chip
when it boots does it say e6300 ? on your screen? might need to press tab to see the screen

you might need to reset your bios and reseat your cpu...

Yes it says E6300 and everything about it.

I don't know how to reset my BIOS. So i need a floppy drive to update my BIOS? I mine as well get one for $5

The P5B can read CDs. Just pop the bios file you got from asus's web site on the cd drive, and off you go. Might have to fiddle a little with it (rescan a lot), but it should see it and be able to update from it.

well you really dont need to since your bios does support your chip. read your manual how to reset your cmos on your board
there should be a jumper
or just go in and set all to defaults

read your manual how to reset your cmos. take our your cpu. reseat it. and good luck im going to macdonalds

if it was working before and he just put in a network card its unlikely he needs to update the bios! maby the network card is in a slot which shares physical IRQ with the hard drive controller or something. ui would just try another slot first, and make sure inserting the card did not unseat any other cards or ram etc.

Ok whatever i have no idea what the f*** to do. I guess I should just buy a floppy drive and give it to somebody who knows

well he has never had it working.
just clear you cmos
but make sure your cd drives are being detected in your bios when it boots you will see primary ide cd rom blah blah
primary slave cd rom if you have them hooked them together

if they are on the same ide chain you need to make sure ou have them jumpered for master and slave
you will know if you have it right when you seem them detected when your bios posts. or inside your bios

Clear your CMOS. Open up the manual that came with your motherboard and find where it tells you how to do this. There should be a jumper on the motherboard that allows you to to do this, the manual will explain which jumpber it is and what to do with it. Page 2-20 of your manual is the one that should show you where the jumper is and how to use it.

After that take out your CD drive and check that the jumper on it is set to be either Master if by itsself on the IDE cable, or Slave if there is another device on that chain (such as a hard drive). Documents that came with the drive should explain how to do this, if not then there might be a chart on the drive also or you might just have to guess and try all the settings.

In your BIOS go under the Boot tab and make sure your CD drive is selected as the first device, if you have properly configured the drives jumper it should show up in here. If not then we can try other things later on.

Make sure all your drives are plugged in to the correct connectors. Double check, tripple check. Also, make sure every drive has a power cable connected.

Try taking out everything except the essentials. By this I mean you should only have one stick of memory installed, video card, processor, hard drive, and CD drive. Take out the network card, any extra memory you have, or any other cards.

Do NOT try to update your BIOS. Not to sound mean, but you are very inexperienced by the sounds of it and in the current position you're in trying to update the BIOS could simply cause more problems. The BIOS that is on the board supports your CPU, not reason to screw with it at this point.

Also, a run down of your entire computer would be very helpful. Make sure to include what memory you're using, your video card, hard drive(s), optical drive(s) (CD, DVD, etc), and your PSU, also if you are using any secondary cards such as networking cards or sound cards.

Hope this helps.

OK, I have Two HD's in

320 GB Seagate HD
80 GB Western Digital HD
- I disconnected the Seagate drive in the SATA and I have the WD HD in SATA 1. I did this because I wanted to install my OS on the 80 GB Drive.

I have two DVD Drives

Lite-On DVD-ROM
BenQ DVDRW Drive

The Lite-ON is detected and is set as the First option for boot. However, it is not detecting the BenQ even though it LOOKS like everything is plugged in.

Geforce 7600GGT
ATI TV Wonder Capture Card
Audigy Sound Blaster Sound Card

I just sent it to the guy who built it to try and fix it. I will update in a couple days. Also, I don't even own a CD Burner in my house right now, So i couldn't burn the BIOS.

Wait, you had another person build it for you and the product you got does not work? Your situation is confusing, I was under the assumption that you were the builder. If someone else built it for you and shipped you a product that did not work then I'd have most certainly gone to him first.

Ok you seem a little lost. First rule of computer building. If this is your first time dont boggle down your pc. Take out all none essentials. Keep only one: optic drive, hard drive,. Than check all the connectors. Make sure everything is connected (this is hardware) push the cables down to make sure there are no loose ones. Than boot and press delete and get into the bios and check the boot order. Your optic drive is first and your harddrive is second in the order. Than if that doesnt work clear your cmos by removing the battey on your motherbaord. Trust me the battery is easy to find, its the only shiny round thing on the motherbaord that looks like a battery (its about 3/4 of an inch round).keep it out for a minute and than put the battery back in and boot.

I will try that and I didn't have anybody i didn't know build it. He is my dad's friend who builds computers for a living and works for the NBA. I see him every Saturday. And those tips look good above me, I will try that.
