Modular PSU under $100 - Recommendations?

Pretty clueless about power supplies other than knowing some of the decent brand names. I'll be building a new Core 2 Duo machine in a few weeks and would like some suggestions on modular power supplies. I'm not running SLI or anything, so 500W should be plenty I'd assume. I'm on a bit of a budget though, so I'd prefer if it was under $100. Mail-in rebates are also acceptable. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

In case it's necessary, here are the other parts I'm considering for the build:
Abit AB9
Core 2 Duo E6400
2gb OCZ PC2 6400
Seagate 320gb SATA
Geforce 7900 GT
(DVD-RW from an old machine)

You can find the Ultra X2 for about that price and it's pretty slick with a great modular interface and a killer finish. I wouldn't want to run a dual core and SLI on it but for a single card setup it should be more than adequate.

I'll vouch for my Sunbeamtech NUUO 550w. It's been rock solid since day one and makes very little noise.

Just my $0.02. :D

Madmat: Hmm, I thought I heard the X-Connects weren't that good? That the X-Finity (the non modular one) was better?

BTW, looks aren't important... I don't mind if it's ugly as sin so long as it performs well and costs something reasonable. (Oh, and nice but not necessary is if it is available at ZZF or Newegg).

Odd you should mention ZipZoomFly ...

That was the first gen X-connect psu's...the current X2's and Xfinity's are very good for the price...especially the Xfinity 500W which is practically a promotional giveaway.

Alright... I'll participate now that people have thrown brand names out there.....

X2 (not to be confused with X-Connect)

$89.99 at Axion or ZZF ($10 rebate at ZZF)

Sunbeam NUUO 550W at Dealsonic for $69.99

Aerocool Turbine 550W at Xoxide for $79.99 at SVC

And if you think 400W will cut it...

Enermax Liberty 400W for $76.22 at eWiz (save $2.22 if you link through Froogle)

After the rebate the X2 comes out to the same price as the Smartpower and IMHO it's a better PSU.

Edit: My bad, I thought it was $79.95 before rebate.

That would be Andyson. The PSU inside the Sunbeam and Aerocool 550W is identical to a Hiper Type-R 580W.

(580W?!?!)

I agree, more beef than most 500w units.

Not really. Silverstone Element 500W, Enhance ENP 500W, Seasonic S12 500W, Corsair HX520W, just to name a few.

He meant for the price...?

Yeah, but that's the old version. No "PLUS" on the box. Not 80% efficienct.

Could you give me a link to the best price on the "Plus" version

Thanks guys, all the input has been quite helpful so far. I'd only known of the Liberty, Antec's NeoHE series, and a couple others before now. It seems the Ultras have a lot of different deals and rebates going right now, but many end at the end of the month so I'll have to see how prices are in a few days.

Blame dBTelos for getting us off topic :D.

Uh, I do it too much. Maybe I should mark all my off topic statments like you do :D :D

Off topic: I need a haircut...

this could work out......

may i suggest this

Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 500W Power Supply Retail ***Free Shipping***
I own a couple Antecs and have always liked them, but there was one thing I noticed while looking for reviews on this particular model. A lot of reviewers complained about the fact that you can only plug in 4 of the modular cables at a time. Now since I don't have SLI or a ton of parts in my system I'd probably be fine with that, but just in case that changes in the future it's not a risk I think I want to take.
