How are you guys getting ridiculous download speeds like 1mb+, I am only getting 27kbps! I have dsl 3.0Mbps. If there is a program or anything out there, please let me know, much appreciated!

I have a DSL 6mbps connection and I'm getting 591kbps download speed. Gotta love the $27.95 SBC DSL package.

I hate you guys, lol. I am now downloading it on a hardwired pc now and getting around 230kbps which is much better, I will probably upgrade to SBC's 6.0Mbps next year.

Downloading now. I'm getting about 520 KB/sec which is pretty good for me at this time of day on Adelphia-Now Comcast cable.

if i need the CD key i'm scrweed
i cant find it....

Although you don't have to enter the key, as I recall, you can retrieve your key from the microsoft site. I did that before for the office beta (which I still haven't downloaded).

I'm not sure what I got, but it was in excess of 1.5mb/s.

DL'ing it and hovering around 425KB/sec with 4meg cable. insight is upgrading our speeds to 6mbps / 1mbps soon too.

As far as this new release, would definitely like to see less clutter.

so if i were to install this on my laptop what drivers do i use to install all my hardware ?
my dell E1705

is this true? i dont want to install and then have to reinstall another OS after 180 days

It's a beta. You don't run beta software forever...besides, RC2 (maybe even RC1 if this is not RC1) has to be out before the end of the year if they're going to release Vista before February.

i was about to flip... i didnt see the md5 anywhere... then i found it right where it should be, lol...

i was like... they better have the fuckin md5 for something this damn big...

Good grief. I'm done. I've tried so many tools out there to repartition my hard drive today that it's not even funny. You'd think there would be just ONE out there that would work with minimum hastle.

i've gotten through to actually installing the os, but after it gets to 99% on expanding the files, it says there is a corrupt/missing file...2 hours of dling and this is what i get? suck

I don't have CD keys from any previous betas. Would it be pointless for me to download this?

sigh, read the thread, its even in the first post.. It was in the biggest font this forum allows saying YOU DON'T NEED A KEY FOR THIS!!! =)

For anyone else that's looking for something to resize their partition so they can make a new partition and dual boot, give gparted live CD a try. It gives you a partition manager inside of a linux distro that boots from a CD. Very nifty.

However.....After repartitioning......I'm getting some nasty sounds from my PC  I don't know if it's the CD drive or my hard drive. Lets hope it's the former. Maybe an off-balanced CD or something.

The sound is somewhat akin to if a wire were rubbing up against a case fan, and it only lasts for a second. Oh god.

But other than that.....Highly reccomended :D

(please don't die HD please don't die HD please don't die)

EDIT: I found the source of the terrible buzzing noise. Sitting behind my keyboard was my cell phone.....On vibrate. Thank god :D !

i'm posting from Windows Vista right now. The thing, as a whole, runs ok. Its kinda sluggish here and there but I still havent installed my drivers and stuff.

I'm running the 32bit edition. Does teh 64bit edition give better performance on a x2 3800?

I don't know why they just call it "RC1" on the website though, and not "pre-RC1".

Turns out that those akamai_temp.iso files were just place holders. I downloaded the x64 one, and it was nothing more than the earlier Beta 2 release of Vista. Bummer
:(

LMFAO :p

I got it downloaded and burned to DVD just fine, but I'm not about to install it yet because I want to setup another hard drive in a diff computer for it.

BUT, it does look like this is RC1. I went through the installer, and all the readme files and EULA things refer to this version as RC1. I think everyone is just calling this pre-RC1 because of the file name and location it was stored in on microsoft's server. I think that actually means "preview" RC1, as in, a preview of Vista. I belive this _IS_ RC1. Anyone else agree?

I have a 1-1.2mb connection and I'm getting 381kbps in Canada. Maybe your little brothers hogging all the bandwidth

Alright, thanks to all that said I didn't need a key... you're right, it works.

I picked Home Premium. Does it really matter what you pick during the install? Could I have picked Ultimate and noticed? Thats the version I want to buy, but I'm not to eager to wait another two hours to install again, haha.

downloaded the file, burned to ISO with Nero. Then boot from cd, and windows runs some files. Then it give u the choice to install windows. Pick that and it loads and I come up on a screen with colorful blue and purplish tones.

BUT IT'S BLANK! and nothing seems to be loading?

edit: Inside the file that I downloaded there's only a text doc that says:

This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification.

Did I dl the right thing?

There seems to be a few of us who are having problems using nero to make a bootable dvd. I dl'ed and chose make a Bootable dvd in Nero 6 and put the dl'ed iso on the disk and Nero tells me that because the file is lager than 2 gigs it will use UDF and then it acts like everything is alright and burns a disk. The disk will not boot and it only contains the iso file. Will someone PLEASE tell us what we are not doing right? Thanks in advance!

I think I used Power ISO to create the Disk, it has built in burning options so does Magic ISO.

So is this only the 90 day trial? I have Beta 2 allready, not much difference in the 64-bit versions is there?

-d.

Just thought I'd drop a line and let everyone know build 5552 was leaked yesterday and you can use the keys microsoft gave out on the last cattlecall download.

Gee 5532 only lasted a day :)

Still only PRE RC-1 but things are moving much faster as the end of the year nears

Primet

I got this up and running under virtual pc (runs slower than crap even when allocating 1.2gb of mem) It said I only had 14 days left to activate windows. I know its beta, but does that mean I can only use it for 14 days?

I didn't input a Key, I selected windows vista ultimate

how big is the actual working file?
the reaso i'm asking is because the file i'm donwlaoding is like 2.5gb+ but it seems like it was finished at 2gb

i'm running of off vista now...

I guess I'll need a CD key after 14 days or so...

jsut a quick tip for you guys... if you disable the microsoft firewall teh internet surfing becomes much much faster...

You do use a different firewall though don't you?

How do you get a key?

I am posting on my Toshiba laptop from Windows Vista Ultimate. I needed to do a reformat on my WinXp Pro anyways, so I backed it all up, deleted partition, created 2 partition's, and so on. Overall, it seems to run good, my specs are Celeron M 1.6ghz, 448 ram(after video), 80gb HD. IMO it is really just eye candy to me, something new to look at. I was hoping for a complete revamp. Everything of course does look different, don't get me wrong, but what exactly is different in Windows Vista Ultimate from WinXp Pro w/sp2? I have it on a dvd as a bootable dvd - if you want a copy and live in the Dallas area, PM me and we can get you rolling.
