when using ventrillo and WoW people complain that when i talk all they hear is game noise while at other times my mic is perfectly clear.
headset is brand new, so is the motherboard i use for sound

any ideas on how to fix this

When you speak on a mic, any background noise around you will likely be picked up. If you have your speakers playing sounds from WoW, other people will hear them along with your voice. Also, if your speakers are projecting someone else's Vent talking, then that will be replayed along with whatever you're saying, which is very annoying.

Summary: If you're going to be using a mic, wear headphones.

headset with built in mic but game sound still come throu so i dont think that can be it

There's an option in Teamspeak to turn down the sensitivity of the mic. Surely there's got to be one in Vent as well.

Are you using a Turtle Beach sound card? They have an issue in Ventrilo where the sound will bleed into the mic line. This is irregardless of whether you are using speakers or not.

Granted, this may or not be your problem because the only symptoms I've experienced when talking to someone with a Turtle Beach soundcard is a huge echo while I talk.

Here's a link, just in case it may solve your problem. http://www.ventrilo.com/faq.php#sound3

Make sure both vent and windows are set to record via the mic

and if you have fraps installed, open it and under movies disable record sound

there is an option in the sound controler in the control panel that you uncheck to disable hearing back ground noise

cant rember what it is though

Get rid of your speakers.

Seriously, buy a headset with a mic included and your troubles are over.

Search in the knowledge base Blizzard has. I remember seeing something about directsound and Ventrilo or Teamspeak.

The solution ended up being switching the voice chat software to wav instead of directsound.
