Madden 07 thoughs 360 NO NO

IGN gives the 360 version an 8.5 review, pretty favorable comments throughout, even mentions the graphics being a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over 06 version, so you haters who claim it looks like crap, can stop crying now. Cant wait to grab my copy on the way home from work today, woowooo!

Dude, I don't care if they gave it a 10. My store's been selling it since Friday and had it up and running to see. It doesn't look like crap, but compared to last year's it looks very much the same. It's still "the best looking football game ever" no matter how you look at it, but it's like bragging about a car with 400 horsepower when you already had one with 395.

I played it at my EB it it looked much better/smoother to me than last years? Whats the subjective difference here? The type of display? or what?

No clue. I never thought last year's was bad either. Short of the random vsync image tears, It was fine. The '07 I saw on display was on an widescreen LCD, but it wasn't huge. It was definitely HD, though. Looked almost exactly the same as last year's except the menus were better layed out and the faces weren't all quite so blank.
It's just like 2001 was "graphically upgraded" to 2002. It's 95% the same, but just cleaned up in a few places now that they know how to program for the new system.

The bad, the menus suck I get lock ups on the menu now and then.

the good. you can now challange plays that is a must and wasn't in 06

I have been playing the superstar mode, and I can say that when you play it like that the graphics really shine. Because your camera is so close to the ground and right up in the action you really notice all the graphical tweaks. I will say being a WR is a PITA because you never know when the QB will throw it to you, and they normally throw it right as your making a cut so you cant turnaround and get to the ball quick enough.

I just got the game.. are you serious?!

the game looks horrible.. everything is so blurry...

my pc 06 version of madden looks better...

is anyone playing it on a hd monitor?

The one at my shop over the weekend was. The game doesn't look bad...make no mistake. It just doesn't look much BETTER. If they're going to put games like this out, it's lousy that they couldn't just charge $20-30 for a patch via Xbox Live for last's year's game. I'm not buying this one, and I know other people in the same boat. Yet all of us would pay $30 for a patch to last year's game.

The best football videogame ever was Front Page Sports Football Pro '95.

If you played it you understand and I am sure you will agree, and if you didn't play it then you have no idea what a marvel of a game you missed.

now I know why ea only showed close up replay views
No offense or anything, but the official released screenshots for pretty much every sports game in existence shows close-up replay views.

my friend bought the game and i'm not impressed at all. it looks like crap w/ all the jaggies and i thought xbox360 will always AA/AF on :( i'm so disappointed

i guess i just dont get it...am i alone in thinking the grapics are pretty decent?...i mean the detail is crazy, just look at the grass on closeups, jerseys, etc...someone said earlier that these games have a visual drawback because you need to zoom out to play it, so when you do that, yes things do look much like last years... anyways, im impressed....and yes the menus do suck in 07

When will a game company (maybe SEGA) bring back...

MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL!

I mean how great was that game? F'ing Awesome! With todays graphics and computing power it could turn out to be even better than the orginal.

Mutant League did kick ass! It was essentially Madden '92, but with lots of supernatural and horror effects, rules, etc.
Supposedly it's one of the games in EA's first "collection" game due out sometime int he fall, although I think it's for the PS2.

Mutant League Football was a great game. So was Mutant League Hockey for that matter- same concept, only on ice. I'd generally avoid caring about goals and just try to kill the other team off.

I guess I'm one of the few as well that think the graphics are great. I've enjoyed the game so far, but there are still bugs from 06 that haven't been fixed and I just don't feel that enough was added to the game play this year. Sure there is the superstar mode, but playing in franchise mode feels an awful lot last year. I was hoping for a bit more in terms of tweaking the game play and fixing some of the bugs from 06. I definately feel that the lack of competition is allowing EA to slack off.

I like the game, the graphics are done pretty well the animations as well. I like the idea of madden gamer level and being able to risk those points in games. Superstar mode is fun as long as your a player that gets used alot (obviously). Also its the only NFL game in town so its either play it or dont. Bottom line.

It was based off of the Madden '93 engine, and yes, it did rock. It's probably one of the best football games I've ever played.. it was almost like mixing the great gameplay of Madden ('93) with blood, guts, gore, and excitement all into one product.. it was definitely one for the ages.

Anyone remember "Bones Jackson"? That guy was like the best receiver EVAR!! :D

bribe ref/kill ref were the shizzle...its a shame EA made it or else maybe we would see 2Kgames put their guys on it...just use the 2k5 engine/franchise/features and everything with a twist towards the sci-fi side of things

I'm still waiting for a demo to come out before I open my copy...too many mixed reviews for my taste.

I really hope the NFL/ESPN is seeing what EA is NOT doing with thier licnese.

LOL holy crap I totally forgot about that series! Great game from what I remember :)

Too bad the PC sucks for playing sports games on it these days :(

Oh well I got Madden 07 for the Xbox360 in yesterday but didnt get home till 10PM and was too tired to try it.

Sorry to bring this back, but for anyone who was holding out - there's a fully functional demo up on Xbox Live Marketplace.
As you can tell, it really looks more or less the same. The ground looks better, and vsync is now always on (which for me means a LOT)...but beyond that's it's not that different.
Defense is still shaky, though. A HB dive with Alexander = a free 5 yards or more each time. If they stack the line, the fade route is uncovered. Throw in 1-2 other plays and you're golden.
I checked with a friend that has the full one and I guess that's the case in the $60 version, too.
One of these days they'll bring back the ability to play defense. I soooo miss the 10-7 scores from Bill Walsh football...

i agree it does kinda suck that u have to score on each drive to win but ehh. what can you do.

I been playing games that end like this 54-76 lol sometimes higher or lower but. I have not had one end where both where under 20 yet. I do miss the 10-7 also.

So true...I still can't believe Sierra let that Franchise go to hell like it did.

I have to agree with you. From what I have played the defense is just tough to do anything with besides let the AI take over and when the play happens hit B get close and tackle. Maybe I just suck but when my son and I play and it is 50-40 at halftime something must be wrong. He just hits a cheap long pass to pinkston every single time. Pisses me offf like crazy. Plus he does a fake field goal from his own end zone and gets a first, runs in a 2 point convert against a field goal block? I guess I do suck :D

"what can you do."

Not buy the game. Mail/email EA to bitch about how much it sucks and write the NFL to complain about how EA is using their esclusive NFL license to produce a game so bad you won't buy it. Then go out and buy a football game that is not associated with the NFL.

That's Madden for you. The whole game revolves around the long pass. In fact, probably the best overall strategy is have a set of audibles that will automatically draw the defensive safety closer to the line. Whenever you see that - if you have a fast wide-out, you WILL get 40 yards every time. Keep running plays from the same set (audibles are especially good) and when you see them move up - throw the long pass. If you tweak your roster and put even faster corners in at wide out, this becomes even worse.
In this game, clearly they made the run really viable, too. I played 4-5 (2:00 quarter games mind you) and I don't think Shaun Alexander was stopped for less than a 4 yeard gain EVER.
Defense is where Madden suffers.
Anyone remember watching the horror show that was the Madden '05 world championship? It consisted of about 90% Atlanta vs. Atlanta. Players just ran around with Vick until something opened up down the field. Most of the games went over 50 points...and this is the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. If the best on earth can't play defense, certainly average Joes like us can't. Even the players who weren't using Atlanta still did the same things. One guy tried to use the nickel and dime approach, but his team was too tired to do it for more than a quarter or two, especially when the opponent scores in 4 plays every time.
Madden has tweaked the offense to the point that it's too easy. You'd think it would be time to beef up the defense...something they have failed at in every 3D Madden game to date. However with no competition, why bother?

i tried SS mode.. and it is soo gay if you're anything but a QB. Made my first guy, i was a RB. Got drafted to the colts. The coach would want running plays, but fucking manning would audible to a passing play and have me block 90% of the time. And when i did get a chance to run, i get no where. The linemen leave no holes what so ever. So i would never get a good break. So then i made a second guy. A WR. Got drafted to the steelers. big ben would never pass to me. I would be wide open and he still wouldnt pass to me. Even when i called for the ball, i would hardly get it. So i made a third guy, a QB. Got drafted to the raiders. Not bad, 'cause i got moss. Well, it seems the AI cant catch for sh\t. I would pass it to him or anyone else for that matter and 80% of the time my receivers would miss/drop it. And the running game sucks if you're not controlling. my RB, lamont jordan can never break for more than 10 yards.. once again, the lineman cant open a hole for sh\t... o and this is all in all-madden.. SS mode is horrible. I think ill stick to pickup games or online mode thank u very much..

don't forget in SS mode, you start as joe nobody rookie.
i made a HB, and doing quite well in my 2nd season.

I finally got my console back from Microsoft's repair center today, and Madden 07 X360 really has me bummed. What's impressive about this game, is that the graphics are un-frickin-bleepin-unreal. They are even better than they were last year, with even smoother frame rates. This game is probably the most gorgeous game i've seen yet for the X360.

The bad news, is that they butchered the Superstar mode along with being able to create your own player. I was so much happier with last year's superstar mode for the regular Xbox. I really wish that when in Superstar mode, you could have more control and also call the plays like you used to.

PROS: Online play, good controls, balanced play, franchise mode, and some other little quirks are pretty nice.

CONS: Where's the chain gang?

went to best buy earlier and saw two different versions

regular and hall of fame edition....anybody know the difference between the two? (aside from the insane price of the HoF edition)

Its good to know its not just me. I'm pretty new to madden in general (snagged '05 for like $7), but it seemed like manually controlling anything on defense was futile, the ai players will do a more reliable job. I just try to sack the qb with whoever seems reasonable.

Nah, as far as I know, you're supposed to let the AI pretty much do all the work although you CAN swap to the pass defender or run-stopper to try to do something special. One of my friends that used to be really good pretty much only swapped to the pass defender at the last possible second in order to try to get an interception or tipped pass. Beyond that, he just chose the defensive formation and more or less didn't touch the controller.

Although last night I *did* finally have the defense stop Shaun Alexander for a loss. After 4-5 consecutive HB dives and counters, they catch on. However, once they DO start to stack the line, the long pass is painfully easy.

I played my first complete season on all-pro.

I was the niners, though I traded Kevan Barlow, 1st and 3rd round picks for Reggie Bush, then Antonio Byrant, 2nd and 4th round picks for Larry Fitzgerald and then picked up Cledius Hunt (DT), Jamie Sharper (LB), Ty Law (CB) and Will Peterson (CB) on the free agency market.

finished 16-0 and Alex Smith had 5,235 Yds Pass, 66 Pass TDs.. Reggie Bush 2195 Yds Rush, 31 TDs and Fitzgerald had 2,456 Yds Rec, 25 Rec TDs along with Veron Davis and Arnaz Battle has 1000 Yds receiving as well.

I was number 1 in Rush Defense... Shaun Alexander was pretty easy to stop, of course the AI would break a few big plays here and there, but mainly I was able to stop them for the most part.

yes the AI does indeed suck I know this special on counters for runs and post patterns for pass. Easily exploitable.

Madden 2006 for the 360 is decent enough. Seeing as how I only paid $9.99 for it new, yesterday.

I'll wait til next year to get Roster Update 2007. =D
