New speed testing site

Closest to me

Farthest from me
Farther away from the server i am the better i do, or maybe seattle is just congested

That bad boy serves an office of 40+

I keep tellin them we neeeeed more speed. :)

Cebridge aka Suddenlink cable @ home.

Not bad for 20 bucks a month, considering I live in a fairly small town up in the mountains. Also not bad speeds to AU, compared to some I've seen posted.

insight communications, i swear it used to be faster before they did that network upgrade, but i guess its advertised at 4mb

Just basically another front end for www.speakeasy.net/speedtest in the end.

The "king of the hill" as far as speed test sites is concerned is:

Stanford University's Speedtest

or any of the others linked from that page. That thing kicks all the ass that ever needed or needs to be kicked with regards to speedtesting on the Internet. If you want the best of the best, those are the ones to use.

IMO the best speedtest for a person..is one located generally close to them..less hops away from their ISPs gateway, thus more accurate of their ISP's actual performance. Removing hops across the continent. Thus..for me..the Stanford test here is across the country, so I have a few more variables in there.

With Speakeasy..I can choose from 2x sites that are only 1x state away from me.

While that might be true in some respects, those speedtests off that page are on 10 Gigabit connections, each of them, so... if they can't saturate your connection, then something is wrong - and the data that those speedtests provide is incredibly valuable when it comes to determining exactly why you're not getting the kind of bandwidth and throughput you should be expecting.

Hence, the Speakeasy one is ok for a quick pretty graphic, but the others are the serious ones.

I can use either the Stanford one (in Cali, and I'm in Las Vegas), or I choose the Jefferson NDT speedtest which is located back in Newport News, VA, on the east coast - my home area, actually - and I get the same results, so I know those speedtests are the real deal, regardless of the location I choose for testing.

With the Speakeasy ones (on slower connections) I can easily see incredible variances in the results depending on which location I choose for testing.

has anyone seen a Java based speed test that did a constant download run - as in it never stopped . I found it on dslreports.com maybea year or so back, I cannot find it or one like it. Would be good to have with anyone trying to get the most outta their wireless connection, cell phone etc...

For some reason, I seem to get better down speeds from SF than LA (where I am). The up has always been pretty rock steady. :)

Our connect is advertised as 6/768. I'm on wireless, usually mota gets better speeds on his wired end than I do.
