E6300 (1.83GHz) vs. Pentium D Presler (3.4GHz)

OK, I'm building a computer for an attorney and she needs it for office use. Nevertheless, some of her apps require a lot of memory. The system I'll be building will be around $600. I am a little puzzled about the processor: Should I get the new Conroe E6300 for $210 or Pentium D 3.4GHz for about $200? Conroe has great FSB, but isn't Pentium D going to perform much faster due to the large frequency gap? I'm assuming that AMD isn't even worth considering since those suckers did not lower their dual core prices properly.

E6300 by a long shot. Chip frequency means shit anymore.

How come these guys compared 2.4 GHz conroe to 2.6 GHz Pentium instead of doing a 1.83GHz vs 3.4GHz comparison to make the results even more clear and dramatic?

A stock E6300 generally beats (and at least keeps up with) a dual-core Pentium at 3.73 GHz.
