My computer specs are in my sig.

I am having problems with my computer and I am not sure what to do. Nothing bad happens, the computer runs fine but entries in the Event Viewer are worrying me. Here is a picture

Event%20Viewer%201.JPG

Clicking on one of these disk errors will display the text

"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

These errors are displayed randomly. sometimes they appear twice a day, sometimes 5 times a day and sometimes only once but they always appear. They usually appear in groups of 20 but sometimes only 1 or 2 entries are made.

I have tried many things to solve this, including...

- Updating chipset drivers for my motherboard
- Reformatting hard drive several times and reinstalling windows
- Running chkdsk /r command in recovery console
- Changed SATA cable
- Changed SATA channel
- Ran a diagnostic tool from the Western Digital website for my hard drive, test said hard drive is fine
- Ran memtest several times for 2 hours, no errors were detected
- Ran Prime95 for 3 hours, no errors were found

What does this error mean, any suggestions?

I had the same issue with my set up a few months back. It turned out to be NCQ. One of my drives supported NCQ and the other didn't. This caused a conflict of some sort. Disabling NCQ on the one drive resolved the issue for me.

You are the 2nd person to tell me to disable NCQ. What is NCQ and how do I disable it? Thanks very much for your reply!

NCQ = Native Command Queuing

It can be disabled via the device manager. I'm currently at work and don't have access to the device manager to get an exact location for you but it would be in either the SATA controller or HDD properties.

if possible could any of you elaborate as to more where the ncq is located? i tried searching myself in the device manage, but seem to have no luck. i have a similar problem, but instead the disk errors are from my external storage.

Go to device manager and then go to VIEW. Select "devices by connection" and then go down to your SATA/IDE or whatever controller. Right click on the controller and go to properties. Then go to primary or secondary channel and the settings are there.

ah thanks for the help :D so has it worked for you?
Well I rebooted and the computer is working. Its too early to tell yet but I will have to wait and see.

I was having this problem and I uninstalled alchohol 120 and daemon tools and it cleared up. damn programs and thier dlls. i also took each drive out and stuck them in another computer one at a time and tested them with spinrite and their various diagnostic programs.
