7800GS for $205 - Good buy?

Good deal, assuming the card is good.. It retails new for about $275-$298 (eVGAs MSRP). I have no idea what their warranty policy is on recerts though..May or may not get the same lifetime warranty as a new card.

It has a 15-day return period through Newegg. I'm not sure of a warranty through eVGA. Even then, 15 days should be enough time to tell if the card works right or not. And for $205, its not a bad deal at all.

$205 = £107

I just bought a 7800GS a few weeks back for £175 and I felt it was worth it (coming from a crappy x800xl), so £107 equivalent is a steal imho.

I like my 7800gs loads because it has ALOT of overclocking potential (got mine at 513/1491) due to good components and a quality nvidia PCB design. My ATI x800xl was a hilariously crap overclocker and wouldn't do much even with watercooling and huge heatsinks on the mem ('cos the chip was poor and the board design didn't cater for increased voltage/current demands). Nvidia have always been superior to ATI in board design, but I digress... ;)

I'm an overclocker and I think the 7800gs is worth it. If you don't plan to overclock at all then that's a bit of a different story...

eVGA has a 90-day warranty on their recertified cards.

Personally, I'd spend a little more for the lifetime warranty.

yeah when electronics fail, they either fail right away or a long time down the road... so a year or two down it may fail... and I know bfg works this way I am not sure about evga, but if they no longer make the card or keep it in stock they will replace it with a better one... provided you have the lifetime warrenty.

I just bought an evga recert card. A 7900 GT for 202 (so the 7800gs may have not been such a great deal). They give you a 90 day full warranty and I believe they qualify for the trade up program, which I'm planning on taking advantage of. Hopefully the 7900gts wont be much more than 200 retail in 3 months, so I can upgrade to a more trustworthy card. (give em time to work out the kinks eh? Plus the box is prettier).

I'm planning on using this card for at least a couple of years, since there's so much good stuff coming out at the end of this year / beginning of next, I thought I'd upgrade my current setup for less than 500, instead of dropping over 1000 on a completely new system. Plus I needed an AGP card, and the 7800GS is the best offering from nvidia as far as I could tell.

I would have bought that too if I hadn't already resigned myself to saving up for a PCI-Express motherboard and card.
