Let me setup the question

I looked into this game and from what I see it looks like the Mech's are going to be another Apache type thing. Let me explain.."Our teammate is going to get it, shit teamkill his ass I want it"

thats what I think its going to be like there might be like 2 per level it looks like...

Here is the question: I was hoping this game was going to FILL my Mech Void I have had since Earthsiege 1 and 2 back in the day and it dont look like it. Do you think it will be like that or will it be a Mech war?

noone post about Mechwarrior I didnt like that it sucked compared to Earthsiege

Just BF2 in a candy coating. There'll be TKING for vehicles/all the same old crap from the last game.

I've only ever been tked for a vehicle once, and only ever had one goon stand in front of me as I took off. It really is blown out of proportion, but whatever. It probably will happen, it's silly to say it won't, but that goes without saying. It's just not exactly endemic within the game

Exactly, thats why I won't be getting it. People are allowed to do whatever they want. Although you may or may not have objectives you're still allowed to just walk around and do or kill whomever you want.

I'll be passing on this game.

Of course there will be TKing, there is always a TKing and there will always be TKing, either for fun of to get something, you CANNOT stop TKing EVER you can't avoid it, it's a cancer of FPS multiplayers.

Besides it almost certainly looks like it will happen what you described in your post, but the game isn't out yet so let's wait and see. Maybe this thing will suck majorly...

Heh... our group prides ourselevs in how well we TK ;) Okay, not on a ranked server, but every chance we get (like pregame, at a LAN, or on one or our non-ranked / mod servers).

I know i've been TK'd on BF2 servers because I was standing there FIXING the Apaceh after an arty barrage... I was waiting for the guy that was really good pilot, fun to gun for and this tard comes up, knifes me and flys off... <sigh>. Most TKs have been "oh crap!" or dumb as commanders that think BLUE dots are where you should drop arty.

Peace,
Tim

That's what I was afraid of. I was wanting a game like Chromehounds where it was a mech war.. but it dont look like it. just looks like they will throw in 1 or 2 and have us fight over it.. I am not sure if I will get this game. I'll just stick with chromehounds

You could always make your own map and put 20 mechs on it.

yep , but most pc wont handle 20 mechs... lag the hell out

If you TK there should be a 45 sec cooldown or so where you CAN'T enter a new vehicle.

This has been my experience as well with BF2, however I only play on a handful of public servers that I know do not put up with much crap. It is up to the people who maintain the servers to prevent TKing tactics like this. I have seen what you are talking about and within a few minutes of reporting it the people were no longer there :).

Oh and if you see me and I TK you, sorry chief, I really screwed up! ;)

Worst TK I have committed was I was sniping and a buddy of mine on my squad snuck up behind me. I heard him spun around and unloaded a clip into him before I realised who it was. Don't sneak up on me I am a bit trigger happy.

That's a pretty good idea imo. If they did put that in, the lamers would whine and cry and they would take it out again most likely

I'm all for a minimum global score (15,000) before allowing any one to use a vehicle with the options to punish tkr's by removing their vehicle access via the global stats. Tk's are only part of the game and shouldn't be tolerated if they can force them not to & they can but don't.

No, it should be a 5 minute cooldown, and this is a great idea.

Back on subject.. I played 2142 at E3 and it was a blast. Basic gameplay works like this...

There are 2 team 'motherships'. Both teams start out on these motherships (which hover about 500 yrds off the ground), and the objective is to destroy the other teams mothership. The motherships have SEVERAL layers of shields that must be destroyed before the opposing team can enter the ship.

The ONLY way to destroy layers of the enemy mothership is to control artillary points on the map, fire them at the enemy ship and move on. Its a full out ground war at this point. Once a shield layer is gone, its gone. After all layers have been destroyed you can now board the enemy mothership. There are many ways to get 500 yrds into the air, ships being one, or you can actually catapult from transit ground vehicles 500 yrds into the air and hope you can aim for the mothership.

Once on the ship you have to weave your way through enemy defenses tucked away in tight corridors and ultimately destory power panels that control 3 doors that gain entry into where the main power source for the mothership exists. Once you destroy the source, you have to high tail it out of there and jump from the mothership before it explodes.

Game over.

I played for over an hour and was fucking addicted. It plays sort of like BF2 but on steriods, with better graphics, better vehicles, and a gameplay system that basically REQUIRES tight teamwork to manuevre though the mothership.

You'll see.

Hopefully there will be Blackhawk type vehicles so that I can go suicidal and crash into other people's land vehicles.

I'm assuming you played it at E3. Am I right?

Yeah it is a good idea, but it should be enough time for the person killed to respawn and take the vehicle he was killed for, nothing more.

The problem with 5 minutes is that if some dumbass runs in front of your vehicle and you TK him, then a few minutes later decide to get out and repair your tank... Well it would suck not being able to get back in.

I thought about putting a condition when in vehicles the TK time out doesn't count, but then you would just see a rash of HMMV TKs for other vehicles...

Perhaps the tk-for-vehicle problem will be there in the beginning but people will realize that the walkers aren't going to be the end-all, win-all machines that they look like. There's a LOT of ways to take 'em down so once the thrill of operating them wears off and people realize they're slow and vulnerable to several different attacks their popularity will drop.

I really don't think the walkers are going to fill your mech-void simply because they'll be easy to operate and nowhere near the depth of a simulation-mech. It's a FPS MP game first and foremost and they'll keep it that way.

Generally I bet the mechs will be used throughout any given round (like the apaches/cobras/J10s in BF2) but they'll be easier to take down and there will be more ways to take them down to begin with.

Lower your expectations of a "mech-fix" and I think you'll be happy. :)

Damn. while it wasn't the answer I was looking for. it was the answer I will have to accept and live with... does anyone know if there is a Mech Sim in the works?

Just make it so you can't get in a NEW vehicle. If you run someone over you can still get out and repair, you just couldn't immediately get in a new vehicle.
