Hello,
I just came back from a 5 week trip and apparently my computer was used by family or friends because it wsa on and it was restarting almost immediatley upon being turned on every time. I decided to try and do a system restore when it actually fully loaded to July 3, the day I left. I'm not fully sure, but I think during the restore it might have restarted or the restore was just faulty. Now, whenever I turn on the computer, in ANY mode, I get this message:
The application or DLL C:\Windows\system32\DNSAPI.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

The only thing I've found so far close to my issue is http://www.cyberspacesupport.com/question.php?question_id=3127 but that did NOT work. Please please please help. Thanks.

Wouldn't hurt to start with a Memtest, and possibly a manufacturer hard drive check. Trying to fix Windows with busted hardware can leave it in worse shape.

I'll try that tonight, but if anyone has any other ideas, I'm begging for help. In fact, I really just want to be able to save my music and my documents, I don't mind reformatting otherwise. By the way, if it helps, I can access recovery console. Thanks again.

If you can access the recovery console or boot into safe mode command prompt, try running the CHKDSK /R command. It will take a while to run, but worth a try.
If you can boot into safe mode windows, try running SFC /SCANNOW.
Also you can also try re-installing windows ontop of current install.

You can always pull the hard drive and put it in another computer to get your data off of it.

Check disk didn't work, and I get the same message in safe mode too :(. Thanks a ton for the suggestions though. The move the hdd idea sounds good, I'll try that soon if all else fails. Anyone else though, any suggestions? Thanks a ton to everyone.
