Does it strike you odd that Intel's new number scheme is strikingly similar to nVidia's previous generations number scheme ..the very series of cards that got nVidia back on track performance wise after getting spanked by ATi for a season .... hmmm

Perhaps this new numbering system on there new powerhouse chips is a foreshadowing of sorts as to some partnership with nVidia as well ....hmmm

Perhaps too ..as well ..also .. I am tired and just pulling things out of my buttocks ...hmmm

I think that you may be seeing what you want to see and drawing comparisons where there might only be coincidences.

Or maybe it's a two year old conspiracy in the making. :cool:
 
No not really. Nvidia is approaching ATI's 9xxx series, X series and X1k series of video cards numbering scheme. Dont think there was a ATI 8800 :confused: but after the 8x00 generation of cards they will definetely be in ATI's 9x00 numbering scheme if they dont change it. Its just how things happen.

Well, with nVidia and ATI's DX10 cards supposedly only months away, I imagine nVidia would at most only go up to 8xxx series, and then totally change it (as will most likely ATI) for the total change in architecture towards G(whatever) and R600.
 
I work for Best Buy part time in addition to my regular job and am part of Intels Affiliate program. Like 6 months or so ago they had me take this 45min online survey (although at the time they did not say who the survey was for since it was through a marketing firm...and I got paid $75) and they had tons of different ways of naming conventions and this was one of them. I am not a fan of the system, I think the notebook and desktop procs should have distinct names, its already hard enough talking to computer illiterate people about computers, let alone having to explain why the procs are named the way they are.

The mobile chips are going to have a T designation instead of a E aren't they?

Yes but they are all going to have the same Core 2 Duo sticker to my knowledge,

Ah, I figured they would at least stick a 'mobile' on the logo somewhere. In any event the people who know about computers will know the difference, the one's that don't (the average computer illiterate big box retail customer) don't need to know the laptop version is technically different than the desktop. I worked for Circuit City for a few years a while back when they were still commission based (when it was worth it) and sometimes I got yanked out of big screens and tossed into computers when they got flooded. Trying to explain technical details to most people causes more trouble that good, just point out which one is faster, which one has which features, and leave it at that. I think most people will be able to get that a higher number means a faster processor.
 
Yep, those numbers mean that Intel is about to take over NVIDIA.

But wait, ATI once used NVIDIA's "GT" suffix. So ATI must be planning to take over Intel.

But AMD has just taken over ATI.

OMG AMD IS PLANNING TO DESTROY THE WORLD!!! :D
 
Really, what pattern? The letter followed by 4 numbers was introduced with Core (Yonah)...

T2300-T2700 (2 = dual core)
L2300-L2400 low voltage
U2500 ultra low voltage
T1300-T1400 (1 = single core)
U1300-U1400
etc

then Xeon...
51xx series

then Core 2...
X6800
E6300-E6700
E4200 (in a few months)

and next month the mobile Core 2 (Merom) parts...
T5500-T5600 (2MB L2)
T7200-T7600 (4MB L2)

I don't remember nvidia using the 2xxx or 1xxx series numbers. :p And the nvidia 5000 series was nothing great. Kentsfield will probably get 8000 series numbering.

I wish Intel would just go back to GHz when Netburst is discontinued.
