Looks good, but I don't like the fact that you are a premade character. I like making my personalized characters like Oblivion. Hmm on the other hand, BioWare made KOTOR kick ass, so maybe this will be worth while.

Looking really good. Another one to go on my list. Just need that or Dead Rising to be released so I can go to the shops for my 360. :)

This is going to be fantastic. Even better, this is going to be the first game in a trilogy. Bioware is going to have me for the next 9 or so years. ;)

It's likely going to be just as exclusive as the (crappy) Jade Empire, so I'll wait for a PC release. Bioware has done well with the space travel and the conversational aspect looks really interesting (the humans suffer from the Uncanney Valley effect though), but the run and gun + psi-ops aspect looks like absolute boredom and mediocrity. I mean, the 360 has enough (too much) shooting as-is already, but do they all have to be based on the Unreal 3 engine, with marines that have large guns in space armor? /jaded

you're right, way too many shooters.

You know what kind of game would be really cool on the xbox?

A first person detective game, it would be a dark game, like sin city. Think about it. It would be totally awesome.

Hell yeah, Dead Rising is the one i'm really looking foward to since Mass Effect won't be out for a little while.

Is there anything that you do enjoy about videogames then, particularly RPGs? I loved KoTOR and so did just about every gaming magazine/website. I know KoTOR II wasn't quite as great or original, but Jade Empire is a fantastic game (gamespot gave it an 8.4 while IGN gave it 9.9!).

Mass Effect is going to be similar in terms of gameplay as these past games, but much more improved. I love the setting of this game - outer space, different world and galaxies. That is why I liked KoTOR so much too. Oblivion is cool, Fable is cool, but both have settings that are basically here, just a long time ago.

As far as many new games being space-marine-gun-shoot-em-ups using the Unreal 3 engine, I sorta agree. This, gears of war, Huxley, etc use the same engine and thus look similar, which does get boring. However, even if they all are sci-fi shooting game with marines, I am certain they will be nothing alike.

I am looking forward to this game as least as much as Halo 3, or any other game coming out.

Firstly, Jade Empire was a great game. Secondly, this is an action RPG, not a space shooter. It'll be a *huge* galaxy, with an emphasis on exploration and interaction. Shooters are all about running through pretty areas and making things dead.

Bioware has never made a crappy RPG, and they have made some of the best RPGs ever made. I have complete faith in their ability to make a game worth playing.

I'll have to concur that Jade Empire wasn't all that great. After all the hype it received, I was hugely disappointed. KOTOR was excellent (I played it on PC, with PC controls), but was disappointing. Mass Effect looks sort of like Freelancer (1 location per planet... mmm tasty!) meets Brute Force + Psi-ops + Gears of War. Or at least its appearance is like Gears of War, Too Human, etc. etc. When I see a first or third person game that has shooting featuring a machismo cliché hero dressed in space suits and large guns/ships to boot being made for the XBox, am I supposed to jump in merriment? What is it about developers that strikes the thought "well, the XBox needs more superhumans in space shooting at aliens, let's make a game!"... hell, even "the XBox needs another shooter" makes me wonder what some of these devs, talented or not, are thinking. I mean, shit, isn't variety the spice of life? Or does a game designed around a children's cartoon supposed to fill the entire void? Hell, Rare should license the Unreal 3 Engine for it, too!

Its called Alan Wake, and its better then your wildest dreams could ever imagine. Yet another 360 exclusive being published by MS Game Studios.

You're welcome.

Wow, perhaps go back to the Playstation forums.

Wow, perhaps respond to a forum post with something constructive! He's just being honest.

Yeah I'll get it for my PC, thanks though... if the game turns out to be good beyond its shiny graphics and promising storyline that has nothing to do with detective work.

Thank you! An injection of common sense seems to anger some people (particularly !!!!!!s who hate Sony with a passion). Honestly, the biggest problem with my XBox was the extreme over-abundance of shooter games to choose from, of which I'd much rather play on my PC with its far superior setup (most of them were on PC as well). The same looks to be starting with the 360, which by its somewhat varied launch titles, I didn't think would be as bad and would have picked up the 360 by the time Q1 2006 came around. Unfortunately, it currently is. The reason the PS2 sold great despite its much weaker specs was because there is a wide variety of titles, genres, and developers to choose from. The Gamecube has that variety as well, particularly in the party-genre, however much less developers dedicated to it (hence less sales). While the 360 doesn't suffer from lack of developers (with Microsoft gobbling them up) it suffers greatly from a variety perspective as of yet and into the near future, aside of course from a few titles on the arcade that won't be selling me a system. If Oblivion wasn't multiplatform, I would've had a 360 already, but alas most of the big games appear as though they are or will be on PC.

I don't doubt BioWare much, but despite what looks to be a somewhat tactical shooter tacked onto the FreeLancer universe, it still suffers from a "me too" aspect on top of its "Uncanney Valey with bad voice acting" characters. While this game obviously isn't completely focused on shooting (not that I'd trust BioWare's RPG roots to be able to make anywhere near a good shooting aspect as a studio like Epic) but it obviously fits into its central plot structure. This is worrysome, unless the majority of 360 owners want to experience lots and lots of built shaven superhero-in-suits archetypes that shoot big space guns on varied planets that always have bump-mapped concrete/metallic floors and walls, with plenty of crates and barrels....... using the Unreal 3 Engine more than half the time. Where is the variety? Where are the party games? Why do I always have to shoot, drive, or play football?

What else is there? Do you want to play with your light saber again? Where is the Nerd smiley at damnit!!?!?!?

Somebody get this man a nintendo DS stat!

This game looks cool. It looks like my sort of RPG. I am not an RPG player as such, I'm not into the Final Fantasy type games etc...this might fit the bill for me...RPG elements mixed in with shooty type stuff...

You know what? I haven't played with a lightsaber, but it may be a lot more fun than shooting a ridiculously overpowered gun with *insert Unreal3-based game character* with 2 inaccurate analog sticks.

There are TONS of different game genres: see above and below. While the above link contains some outdated genres (i.e. text adventure) there are plenty of ways to approach a video game that doesn't involve one of those 3 things I listed.

I already have one, and thankfully the portable has a variety of games and genres. It has gotten so much play time, that it has been my favourite gaming platform (aside from my PC) since the SNES! The consoles have mostly been collecting dust, aside from the party games constantly being played on my Cube - while the DS has been phenomenal in both a solitary setting and a group setting. A great example of the different things you can do, and perhaps a sign of what's to come with the Wii. As for this game, it ain't doing it for me at all. Call me jaded, but "ooooh look at the pretty realtime graphics!!!" doesn't phase me anymore. If this game comes out to PC, I may try the demo or something - but it's certainly not selling me a 360.

Why is the store window at EB or Gamestop the only place you look for games? There are plenty of other good games out there if you look for them and ignore all the hyped up sequel after sequel games...

It most certainly isn't where I look. Truth is, I haven't been compelled to buy the new XBox because for the most part, aside from 1 or 2 games, that's all I see.
