Is Prey really 5 hours long?

I'll wait until the price drops. My friends who have played it have told me that they went through it in about 4-5 hours but they did say the game was excellent.

I can understand some of you not wanting to buy the game due to it's short length, and I can't blame you as it's not like we all have some kind of magical money tree lying in our backyards. However, that shouldn't prevent you from checking the game out. I'm sure that at least the PC version will be on sale for around $34.99-$39.99 when it comes out, and in my opinion thats a decent price, and definitely better than paying $49.99.

One of the main reasons I'm buying the PC version rather than the Xbox 360 version, aside from keyboard/mouse support, is the price difference. Pay $49.99 or $59.99? I'll stick with the PC version. The only people that I feel should be irrate are Xbox 360 owners who will have to pay $60 for the game, as I feel that's a bit much for around a 7 hour game with only deathmatch/team deathmatch multiplayer options.

Well GS review is up.
7.5
They kinda trashed it.

Hm, I dunno if you're slow or if I'm fast. I play at what I imagine is a normal pace, but who knows...

WRT to Quake 4, it took me a solid 15 hours to get through.
But that was on the advanced difficulty.
I started the game on default and it was just too easy.
A lot of that time was spent on the last few levels.
They were HARD !

Its rumored that the demo is ~20% of the game.

It's been stated by the developers that the demo is 20% of the game. At least on the 360. The reason for this is that because Microsoft has standards that must be met for each of their demos. One standard is that it must start at the beginning of the game. But since you don't get your spirit walk powers until later in the game, and the developers really needed to include that to showcase their game, you end up with a long demo.

I believe I heard this on the GamingSteve podcast.

gamespot is a joke, they have nothing better to do than trash a game

and yeah I agree with you, in the highest of difficulty quake 4 takes about that time to beat

the games becomes harder when you are against those orange suit soldiers, somehow they kill you right away with a few shots, which can be a frustration sometimes lol

That's not ture. Call of Duty 2 didn't start at the beginning of the game.

The only rule that I know if is that demos can't have saves.

Back on topic. ;)

Well...5 hours or not, this game blows.

I really liked the demo...but this game is the same CRAP over and OVER again. The only thing it has going for it is the gore factor, and thats getting prettttyyyy played out. I hope theres more to this game later on...

If i recall correctly Prey demo saved probaly 5 - 6 times.

Not sure what your trying to say?

One nice thing is that if you played through the demo and install the full game, you can start at your last save in the demo so you don't have to play that through again if you don't want to.

Aw man!!! CRAP! I uninstalled the demo in preparation for the full game.
Damnit, now I've gotta go do the early levels all over again.

I'm so stupid....

Just installed it, and the thing that pisses me off already is that for 49 bucks, you get 3 cd's. BUT if you buy the 59$ version, with some animal-erotic pewter castings, you get the DVD. Sigh.. that makes me a sad panda. I want the DVD, but without the animal-erotic pewter castings..

GAWD this stinks.. Need to find a way to burn it to DVD.

If it's on 3 CD's, does it really matter? Once you install that bitch, you'll only need to initial gameplay CD anyway.

I don't read any reviews from Gamespot anymore, as you can't seem to get a fair review from them anymore. I generally trust Hardocp, IGN, and Teamxbox's reviews for most for the time being, although I never base more than 20% of my decision to buy a game based on a review anyway.

If there are people out there who have already made up their mind to not like this game, you arn't going to get a fair opinion about this game from them. I think some people, and many gaming journalists actually talk themselves into not liking a game even before they give it a try.

I also don't see why X360 owners should be irate about the game being $60. Games costing this much really do bite, but compare that with how much money we are saving by not having to buy and install upgrades for a PC every year just to get the latest game to barely run. It's also nice to just be able to plop a disc in and play without worrying about drivers, patches, more bugs, and possible hardware issues.

I am about 2 hours into this game right now, and it really is awesome. The style of gameplay is something we havn't seen before, and the graphics are very good. I would like to see a little more antialiasing, but i'll live as it's still very good. The bad news, is that if you are very prone to getting motion sick like me, expect to need a break every now and then. In others, don't expect to rush through and beat the game in 10 minutes..........

I, too, uninstalled the demo before playing the game. To my surprise, however, the game took off from my last save point before finishing the demo. I guess it kept the save files in some esoteric folder.

It keeps the game saves in My Documents > My Games > PREY

I'll just wait to either get rich or for the game to hit the bargain bin. Either way I'll have it relatively soon.

4 hours 13 mins, by someone on their first play of the game. Not rushing through it.

Didn't work in the Prey demo, doubt they fixed it.

Totally not worth it. Finally another FPS did at least something different and it is even shorter than HL2 :(

Also, why does everyone want to read the good reviews. When i'm looking to get a game I would rather read the reviews for the people who didn't like some things so I can get an idea of the things I might not like as well. You have to be a critic to review things. If you just go around giving everything a 9+ then you won't really know what is good and what is not. I'm not saying IGN is a bad site, but I'll take my time reading the gamespot one to get an idea of what they didn't like and what I might not like as well. I would rather disagree with gamespots ideas of what was bad, then think the game is a kick ass 9 and get it only to find out that it's a 7.5.

Half Life 2 wasn´t short? But I guess you are thinking about Episode one?

I agree some retards wants short games so they finish them quickly I don´t understand it. Games don´t get cheaper because they are shorter they are still priced the same...

Episode 1 is an expansion and is cheaper but if this don´t give more and you pay twice the sum... It better be good I say but it just shipped so to late to regret the purchase now.

I am probably getting som unlocking cheat so I can play the game on higher difficulty. Was no real challenge when playing the demo and from what I hear about the reviews it´s really really easy even without he spirit walk...

Prey will take you 7-11 hours to complete based on how quickly you want to get through it or enjoy the plethora of eye candy. The puzzles are quite clever. But if I can offer one piece of advice, do not neglect your spiritual form. You'll know what I mean when you get into the game.
The graphics are great, although I hate the fact it's a forced 60Hz refresh rate. Also one thing I noticed, the 'F' word was used quite often, so if you have kids around, be wary of this.
All in all, I loved the game. The ability to walk on the ceilings and walls adds a whole new element and really keeps you on your toes in regards to where the enemy is firing from. Definitly worth the $$!!

hehe.. yeah, I noticed more than the normal amount of F-bombs flying in the demo.. I think it makes it more realistic.. that's what I would be saying I can fucking asure you. . . .but it's not quiet like Deadwood. ;) Anyways, I picked the game up at Fry's yesterday and am enjoying it so far.. it is very pretty and fun! Very high on the fun factor and not so much on the frustration factor.. which I like. :)

It took me about 6 1/2 hours to get through it. They did a good job of not making it seem like it was cut short, but they still could've taken some more time to keep it going.

Well... for the time it took to get this game done, you would /think/ it would be a bit longer.. but it's ok, I still think it's a fun game.. but I think Hellgate London will OWN... this one is just another distraction until HGL comes out. ;)

Guys just spend more time in the bar :D. Drink a few beers and play the black jack :)

Just some advice, stick around after the credits of the game, because well there is a tad bit more.

Wow. So I guess it really is pretty short, huh?
I remember people calling HL2 short, too...but it took me a few weeks to get through it.
I guess I'll wait on this one to drop in price a little.
Is multiplayer decent at all? The other Doom engine games are like molasses.

HL2 was certainly not short. It was just so good that it made the time fly by. ;)

Anyway, I hate the excuse "oh man it's only short if you rush through it"... wtf? Most FPS games are very linear, you have no choice but to move foward. Then there's people who argue "you are supposed to take in the scenery and enjoy the environment"... what the hell do you want me to do, stare at the anus shaped door for an hour? There are no excuses for short games. The developers are either running out of ideas or cutting down on length in order to meet a release deadline.

Play Deus Ex. Even if you don't explore the environment, it's still at least triple the length of all of todays games. I remember racking up 60+ hours in that game. That's what developers should be shooting for. I want my games to be an experience, not a one day rental, especially when you are paying 50 bucks for them.

That is really sad that Prey is that short. The guy gets abducted by aliens and flown out into the depths of space and still manages to make it home in time for dinner.

But then the detail in 10 Deus Ex levels is the same as in one level in the demo... One of the biggest problem with Deus Ex was it´s graphics engine... They made the levels so huge they had to make them totally empty.

It takes more time to make a long game today but still they should do it I feel :).

Sell used CDs, buy used DVD, let previous owner keep the kinky pewter and shave a few $ off the price. All better. :)

Won't be anytime soon, because its rumored the code for the game was recently stolen and is for sale in China...

:(

Almost all recent FPS releases are around 7 hours now. COD2, Quake IV and FEAR all took between 7-8 hours for me to play through. I'd imagine from what people say about Prey that it will be the same.
COD2 was definately longer then 8hours
