I've been reading through these Dell threads and everyone is having to remove tons of Dell preload crap before even using their notebook.

I ordered the $10 WXP Home restore CD with my notebook (I plan to reparition the hard drive anyways and I want to reclaim the space used by that shitty Symantec stuff)

Anyways, does the restore CD have two options like this

Choose a selection:
1) Install Windows XP Home and drivers and neccessary utilities only
2) Install Windows XP Home and bloatware

what my understanding is, is that when you spend the extra money, you get the actual copy of windows xp. so when you wipe and reinstall, all you have is a fresh copy of xp.

the bloatware was installed after the fact, then just copied using their hard drive-cloners, so you neednt worry about bloatware being installed w/ the xp disc.

but you will need to use the dell drivers CD to install any missing drivers.

hmm interesting, i didn't have the option to get a new install cd with my e1505, wonder how i'll go about accomplishing the same exact thing

I called Dell to get an os cd for my E1505, I recieved it in the mail the next day (actually it is a dvd). I also asked for a manual which they sent as well, all of this was free of charge. I guess you must be entitiled to it if you bought a laptop from them. I haven't used the dvd yet as I'm going to attempt to use nLite on it when I get around to it.

Make sure you ask for application cds as well. I had to email dell to get mine, as the dvd burning/viewing software isn't included when your laptop ships.
