Everything was working fine two days ago... Yesterday I pulled out my video card to install an aftermarket cooler, cause It sounded like a plane taking off. Result? I put the card back in, hit the pwr button, and get memory beep. Ok, so somethings wierd with the memory. Took the 2nd stick out, I got to bios. Switched the sticks, same deal. Both sticks work alone. Hmm... Neither stick works in the last two slots on my motherboard, however... the first two slots will get to bios.

Now, I get system boot disk failure, please insert system disk. So, in goes my xp disk, and the result is a lot of wierd clicking from my DVD drive, which worked before all this started happening. It doesnt read the XP disk, I tell it to try again, it spins up properly... However it freezes partway through loading files, the dvd drive making all kinds of wierd clicking noises. Best part of this? Exact same thing happens with another dvd drive I know to be working 100% (pulled from another machine).

So... The memory works, the DVD drive works, but not with this motherboard. I think theres somthing funky going on with the chipset, any ideas?

Ive already reset cmos, reseated everything, etc, and im gonna give asus a call when they open, but if anyone has any ideas here, Id really like to get it fixed.

hmmm, what you have said leads me to believe that perhaps you got some static eleltricity damage during the GPU cooling replacement. perhaps you weren't grounded well and something shocked through your mobo. luckily all your other parts weren't damaged.

Pretty much what I figured... sounds like its chipset related.

Wierdest part? I do all my work with parts in a room with hardwood floor, and I was wearing a static wristband attached to the case.

Meh, either way, called up asus, told em what happened and what ive tryed, and they will still do an RMA... <3 asus.

I'd see if maybe when you were moving parts around you moved the board a little bit and now something is grounding out. Take out your board and remount it (or try running it outside the case). RMA is a last resort type of thing since it takes so long to get it back.

Bah wish id thought of that before I sent it off... sent it off about 5 hours after I posted the thread, oh well :(
