Do I need RAMsinks for VGU?

Hi Guys,

I ordered some parts to build my first WC Loop but I have a question regarding the VGU.

I bought a Danger Den Maze4 GPU Waterblock, to cool a 7800GT. Do I need RAMsinks for it? I'm not sure if by taking the standard aircooling solution Off will pretty much put on risk the RAM.

BTW I'm not planning on overclocking the VGU.

Thanks...

It would be a very good idea to get some RAMsinks since the maze 4 doesn't offer total coverage. Generally, taking off the cooling from a VGA card leaves no cooling for the RAM.

Thanks that's what I thought... thanks goodness the Petra's guys are pretty cool.. I called them to see if I was still on time and Yes, indeed they were nice enough to add to the package the "Swiftech MC14 BGA Memory RAMsinks" even though the package was already done... they were very nice and said they will do it since this will not add weight to the package.

Phew..! saved some shipping money there :)

Just make sure you get some good stickies to stick the sinks on...I've heard a lot of stories about them falling off after hours/days.

yea the guys over at petras are good dudes. i dont use ramsinks on my ram, but i do have a fan that directs airflow right over the bottom of my card and then out of the empty pci slot underneith the card

QFT! The tape on them sucks, after having them fall off multiple times, I gave in and scraped the crap tape off them, sanded em down up to 1200 grit, and used some as5 + superglue on the corners. Result? They arent falling off... However I couldnt tell you how good the contact is, as the tape left a little bit of paste on my ramchips that wouldnt disolve with alcohol, and I wasnt about to sand the actual chips. I scraped what I could off... but if I were you id start by removing that crappy tape.

Crap that's bad... question.. with the superglue, have you seen any thermal reaction? meaning burning smell or if the glue is melting or fuming? Just making sure if I go that route I want to use the right stuff.

I will first give it a shot with the original stuff then will have to go the "Glue" choice if they fall off.

- Thanks

Just use a small dab of superglue in the corners, and spread the AS5 around the block. No burning or anything like that here, been doing it for years. I usually make my own ramsinks, but decided id give the swifttech ones a try cause they looked really nice... Im gonna stick to making my own, simply due to the tape they include

Thanks for the tip I think I'm going to that it won't hurt anyway if I apply this in the corners with probably a needle to make it very small :p
