Does anyone have experience with this line of ultra portable? I am looking for a cheep, internet ready, ultra portable... necessary to do only basic functions. I saw this one and know of dell deals, so I'm interested. Are there any infamous downfalls with using the X1 that anyone knows about? Any great advantages?

I've heard good things about the X1. However, in the end I'm gonna have to throw out my word for the thinkpad x-series when it comes to ultraportables.

hehe, fair enough. but a little expensive for comparison when looking at dell deals

I have experience with both and there is no comparing the Lenovo X series with DELL's X1.
The Lenovo X-Series is available with Core Duo processors, the Dell X1 is limited to a measly 1Ghz pentium M. The X-series have killer docks so you can just drop the laptop into it and use a huge screen with a regular keyboard and mouse. There's even a dock with a PCI express slot available so the laptop can be used for high-end gaming.

If you read the post, the laptop only needs to do basic functions, and a 1Ghz Pentium M will do those just fine, no need to buy a core duo to just surf the internet or do light work.

and on a side note of that, good point, where would I find a cheep Lenovo X!!! Back to the thread though, if you guys know anything about their performance, any advice one judging one against the other. Also, if there are alternative laptops, that are very cheep <500 that I can get (even on eBay, if they are in good shape) that are still 12" or below, I would be interested.

Yes, but it's not compatible with the X series .
