What's the longest single player game you've played?

NOLF I think it has to be. That game is huuuge
Now that I think of it, NOLF should be in the list. :D Are they making a 3rd sequel or anything BTW?

Morrowind was undoubtedly the longest I've ever spent on anything... over 1000 hours, easily.

As for shooters, Goldeneye on N64 probably took me a couple of hundred hours to finish completely (ie. all the levels on Hard). Perfect Dark would've come close if I'd had the patience...

Dues-Ex, by far the longest FPS campaign I have played. and I loved every second of it.

Was wierd after the first 20 hours I was like wtf when does this game end?

And I thought I beat it twice before I got to the end :)

Not an RTS, but...X-COM: UFO Defense. I logged hundreds of hours on that thing building the perfect squad and hunting various aliens for tech secrets before hitting Cydonia. And the game is still fun today after more than a decade.

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor gives even Morrowind a run for its money.

diablo 2 single player sucked...it would take too long to even bother winning without cheating one way or another.

Haven´t heard any of it. Cate Archer is the hottest gamer chick out there there is no contestant really want to play with her more.

Makes me laugh when people get all over Alyx. Sure she is nice and not one of the bimbo stereotypes but she isn´t a class player like Cate ;).

Haven´t heard anything about a NOLF 3. Monolith making the F.E.A.R expansion now and I guess F.E.A.R 2 but would be so great if they could give us a NOLF 3.

Unreal 2

I actually had to wait atleast a year to finally upgrade before i can continue playing. Whoever programmed this piece of crap should be shot!

The winner for me is Age of Empires 2. This is ONLY because I was involved in a lot of tourneys online and I played 3-4 hours a day and like 5-7 hours on the weekend.

Btw, I was really good too.

The longest FPS i played would probably be No One Lives Forever. That's actual game length, not the ammount of time it took me to play through it with dying and such.

2nd place would be a tossup between HL1 and far-cry.

The game worked perfectly fine, not buggy at all from what I remember. It was just short.

Okay here goes.
FPS - Duke Nukem 64, The 64 version had all the levels from the pc and many many more. It takes sooo damn long on hardest difficulty because you have to destroy the creatures bodies, I remember giving the boot to one monster for 15 minutes just to finish him off.

PC RPG- Morrowind, people say oblivion is long and all, but I has nothing on morrowind, that game pretty much went on forever and ever.

Console Game- Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, I have a cumulative time from my friends and I playing that equals somewhere in the 250 hour range. I actually have a burn mark on my old tv from the circular map in that game. Now that is play time!

Console RPG - Star Ocean, Being 2 full dvds this game is mad long. I remember cracking into the second disc after about 60 hours of gameplay. Yeah I might have gotten side-tracked a bit, but that is some heavy ass play time. Also this game has the best RPG combat ever.

RTS - TA Spring, I have never ever seen an online match drag on this long. I ended up winning a 7 hour match because they other team got fed up of playing.

Kotor or Shenmue

Played Kotor through the night several nights in a row

Shenmue because it came before Kotor....but definitely finished it quicker.

I'm not sure if it qualifies (and surprised nobody else mentioned it), but Civilization (all four versions) is probably at the top of my list.

Waaaaaay back in the day, Harpoon had the crown.

Total Annihilation gets honors too.

Im surprised only 2 people said baldurs gate 2. Thats easily 100 hours doing the main quest ONLY. Add on another 200 if you choose to do sidequests.

I graduated last Saturday, so I've had time to kill.

I've gotten quite alot of time to play Oblivion. So much so, that it tops the list for me in application to this thread.

I love it!

oblivion....

every other game is so short

hl2 took me like 10 hours

hl1 took me less...

cod games are a joke, i can beat those games in like two sittings

okay.. I hope this doesn't only apply for PC games...

I played Pokemon Red version for the longest time. and then yellow version came out.. and then I played that forever.

Back in the day it was the "hit" so please don't make fun of me, most of you 18 year old's now look back and say, man this was "awesome".

I couldn't handle not catching the every single pokemon, I even traded to get all of them  :D

good times.

No bugs, but it ran very slow for it's graphics at the time (This was later topped by DeusEx2). Not to mention that the so called "quick load" takes 2 minutes minimum. Playing the game was an exercise in patience. An alien concept for an FPS.

I'm going with San Andreas, Daggerfall, and Oblivion.
Baldur's Gate 2 was long too...but I think I'm thinking of the game in "hindsight's 20/20 mode" as I can't recall what was in BG1, what was in Tales of the Sword Coast, what was BG2, what was Throne of Bhaal, and even what might've been in the 2 Icewind Dale games. It's all a blur, but one of the most fun blurs of all time :)

Anyone ever play some of the old D&D games like the Undermountain games? Some of those would really rack up the hours, too.

I invested a great deal of time in Zelda: Ocarina of Time acquiring all the heart pieces, gold skulltulas etc. So I would vote for that. Oblivion got boring after about 40 hours and took me less than 20 to complete. The sidequesting in it just ceased to be fun after mastering all the guilds.

And for the love of God stop posting about multiplayer games. If you want to go that route, EQ1 and Lineage almost certainly have players with thousands of days of played time invested.

Off the top of my head...

Ocarina of Time
Doom 3
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
The Longest Journey
Unreal
Soldier of Fortune II
Deus Ex
Half-Life

still can't beat need for speed hot pursuit...

I could've unlocked everything in that game, but had to use a code to do it. The problem was that the tournaments required night driving and those were impossible since the screen was mostly black.
