Dell 2007 fp/fpw Banding issue.

I bought one when it was $100 off with free shipping (pre-May 31). Yeah it has banding but just everyday browsing the web and gaming I don't see it. You DO see it on the gradient tests. I sent a PM to Chris on the Dell forums. They will simply ship you another with a return label. Put your old one in the box and ship it back. You really can't go wrong.
does it only apply to US customers? why did he never make an officially anouncement publicly on how the exchange process will be done? I need the words as a reference so that when i call Dell Canada, I can refer them to it.
also why did they fix the desktop mode while banding is not an issue under web browsings and Words? video playbacks and gamings are where people experienced problem.

Well just read the sticky on the Dell Forums. This is a Worldwide fix. The process is very clear. DO NOT CALL support. Simply PM Chris at Dell. See this post at the Dell Forums.

Update on the 2007/2407 banding problem and the Dell worldwide fix.

Excerpt:
The next question many of you had was how the actual exchange process works.

1. I gather your shipping, monitor, etc. information
2. That data is put into a spreadsheet for the dispatchers
3. The dispatchers setup the exchange
4. The monitor and a return airbill are shipped to you
5. Place the old monitor into the box that the new monitor shipped in
6. Attach the return airbill to the box
7. Call the number on the return airbill to arrange for pickup

If you have the banding issue, please private message me the following information (do not post your information publicly):

Complete name of person to contact:
Complete shipping address:
Daytime phone of contact:
Order number:
Monitor serial number:
Reason: Need flashed monitor due to banding issue

Got my new monitor today and it's exactly the same. Are you sure you seen banding in my pics? I'm on the fence to keep it or send it back for my money as the 9th is my last day to ship it out.

How long does it take to get a new monitor sent out? I PM'ed the Dell mod yesterday but have not heard anything back yet.

I think people are just starting to get them... i wouldnt think it would too long for you.

i put in a PM to the mod a few days ago now. anyone know if we're supposed to get a reply? or do we have to find our way through their support forum maze again?

Chris is running through a lot of responses. I would just hang out, as they're proabably just now getting quantities to ship out. After they're flashed in China, they have to clear customs; which will take 2-3 days assuming they're expidite qualified.

If you just put it in recently, you're probably going to be a bit behind those of us who submited the first day it was open.

Meh, I am in no hurry. It's not the banding that bothers me, its that I have 2 stuck pixels. :D

yeh your probably right. its just i really want one without banding, )but honestly it doesn't affect me that much)...its just sooo close to a perfect monitor, it looks great and has soo many features and is pretty cheap.

aw...that's a bit of bummer.....

luckily mine doesn't have any...

*touch wood*

I just checked my Dell forums account, and after PM'ing the mod yesterday about whether or not i should get a reply from him,

he replied saying that i should just wait for the delivery, which is "possible next week".

So fingers and toes crossed :D

Does any else think that this whole exchange process trough a frorum is a bit strange? Why are they using private messages trough dells forum instead of their support number or at least e-mail? Who is this guy Chris? I know he is a mod but does that really mean he has the authority to handle these things? I'm probably just paranoid, but is still seems odd to me. I guess we will find out soon enough.

yeh i completely agree...it does seema bit dodgy. it mite be a ploy on dell's part to keep this whole banding thing quite, within the people that know of the banding problem.

I guess this stops the problem from being noticed by people who aren't real enthusiasts, and so future purchases wouldn't be affected as they begin to ship new, flashed monitors.

what do you reckon?

I thought that too but why not handle exchanges through their regular support system. Whatever the reason, that sticky is going to draw plenty of attention. Type "2407 dell" in yahoo and it's on the first page :)

oh is it really? look at that.

well its either that their plan to keep it quiet, really screwed up, or they just can't be stuffed. i think in that post by the mod it says something about them informing the call centres or the technical support staff? not sure.

but still, on one side i'm glad that i don't have to fight my way through their technical support call centre - those things are just stupid.....half the people there have no idea what you're talking about, the other half just deny that there are any problems with their products..

Do you guys think that people who purchase "new" Dell 2007fpw or Dell 2407fpw are actually getting "used" flashed versions?

They will probably be sold in the Outlet as refurbs.

i don't think so. i mean the fact that he said "new" would mean new. if it doesn't it would just cause a lot more problems for dell. besides, the have a pretty relaxed echange policy. most people can get a new one without any questions if they ring up and say that theirs is faulty

Do you think that if I bought a new one from Dell today that I would still have to send it back to get it flashed?

If you buy one and it has a banding issue you need to go to Dell's support forums and read teh sticky. It will tell you who to PM and then they will send you a replacement, flashed monitor when it becomes available. If you wait til the 15th you should be fine...allegedly.

15th? At first I heard the 9th.

I PM'd them over 2 weeks ago, no response...

I re-pm'd him yesterday though, and it says that it was read by Chris only 30 mins after I sent it.

A response would be nice. Grrr..

Yeah, some sort of confirmation would be nice.

that's why i think this whole support through the forums thing is dodgy. i mean there's really no garuntee that there's a record of anything. its just one forum mod saying he'd do something about it..

but then again when you think about it, all large companies, even in call centres work this wal. guess there's nothing much you can do about this kinda stuff.

w00t!!! Just got it. It's an IPS panel, and has no banding issues. Model from the service menu: LPL UXGA LM201U05. The banding issue was CLEARLY gone. I'm glad I finally got the display I paid for. It revision A02 from Mexico.

I woke up and there was a Dell box sitting in my room (thank goodness someone else was home). No warning from Chris over @ Dell or anything like that.. just a Priority Overnight box with a nice A02 Made in Mexico 2007WFP inside. :)

Banding is gone, no dead pixels, everything looks great!

Good to hear the problem has been solved.

I wouldn't call this a 100% fix, but it's definitley a step in the right direction. Banding shouldn't be present in any mode, and this type of processing shouldn't be causing it. Either way, I've got a much more functional monitor; and that makes me happy.

I still want one and will probably wait for the next big deal to happen before I take the plunge cause right now I'm typing on my 2nd display a 19" sony CRT and the colors/brightness are horrible, it's blurry, big and ugly, DIE CRT DIEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! ok sorry :(

i just want the revised bersion so bad. not that i notice the banding all that much...its just that its soo close to a perfect monitor, and it was such a good deal.

oh well. i'll just have to wait.

One question, since I've heard that the Rev.02 ver. had fixed the banding issues. But some of the owners still report the banding only been solved in 'desktop mode'. While running 'multimedia' or 'game' mode, the banding still there. Though they have the A02 ver. So anyone has already got your Rev.02 could test this out? I'm about to buy it...but..still hesitating..
Thanks

That's the nature of the fix.

The banding is caused by the video processing chip in the monitor. A02 turns this chip off in Desktop mode, but keeps it on for Multimedia and Gaming modes. Dell Engineering couldn't/wouldn't fix the chip itself, so they just bypassed it. Desktop mode is all I've had to use so far for watching movies and gaming, so it's cool as far as I'm concerned.

If you want a "complete fix," buy another brand monitor. You won't get it here.

So these modes are just preset for picture? I could also play games full screen in desktop mode setting..? Correct? If that's so, then I just wait till the a02 ver. in circulation..okay, thx for the input, m8 :)

That's correct. The other modes are just supposed to be "optimized" for viewing media/games etc..., but really it's not that big of a deal. I use mine for TV, DVD, X-Box, etc... and they all look quite nice in desktop mode.

Thx Oldie, will order soon, hope it will be A02 ver.....finger crossed...

i pm'ed the Chris mod guy in the dell forums, and according to him, i've been entered into the database, and he has no idea when it would be shipped out to me. all he knows is that the people are working overnight to try and send all the replacements out, and also that there will be NO confirmaiton. it'll just arrive.
