Hey all, I'm torn between these three sets of headphones. I am a gamer but I also listen to a lot of music on my computer so I have a Audigy 2 ZS with a pair of Sennheiser PC-160's that I bought because of the microphone.

Now however since I got my Audigy 2 ZS I found out how much I can tweak the sound and I've got these 160's pumping out some decent amount of bass. However I've seen these more expensive model headphones and I'm a bass freak. I want deep ear ripping bass so I'm looking at these three sets.

At first I was set on the sennheisers but after reading some reviews, I think I want the Beyerdynamics DT770's. They are said to have lots of deep bass and clear mids/highs.

Also, yes I've been over to the high-fi forums and read some of there reviews.

Which one of these would you pick? I was going to go with the AudioTechnicas but I have to import them so I'm not too sure on that anymore. I don't know a good place to buy them either....

Could you guys lend a closet audiophile a hand here?

If you want bass get the Beyers, if you want clear good all around sound for gaming and music get the Sennheisers. The Beyers are bass heavy and they lean HEAVILY towards it. Whereas the Sennheisers are excellent all around, up to you :)

Alright, next question.

The Beyerdynamic: There are two versions. 250ohm and 80ohm.

I'm on an Audigy 2 ZS with no amp. Which do I want? I'm thinking the 80ohms...

Second question: Where can I buy the Beyerdynamic DT770's?

Since you're a basshead, like me, forget about the HD-595. While it's a good headphone, it allways sounded a bit dead and boring to me. It's too neutral for my taste, and I would assume the same goes for you.
That leaves the DT770 and A900. They are pretty similar, but the A900 is just less focused on the bass, and a bit more on the mids. The DT770/80 has recessed mids, the DT770/250 even more so, unless properly amped. Out of your source, it would deffinitly be the DT770/80 (or the new 32 ohm version). The DT770 does the bass and highs very well, so if you listen to music with not that much mids (say house, trance, etc), that's the way to go. The A900 would be a fine choice if you listened to music that does have vocals, etc, but then in my opinion you should skip the A900, and go right for the more neutral HD-595. The HD-595 is the can that got me started on the headphone hobby.

I think that after a month of your headphone usage, you will want to upgrade your sound card, so you might aswell start looking now. :)

Is there another e-tailer I can buy these at.....right now I'm looking at ebay for $200, which is ok I guess but I just thought there might be another place a tad cheaper out there.

595's \ DT 770 \ DT 880 (x-axis is Hz, y-axis is dB)

I know you didn't ask about them, but the 880's have a much more neutral response. I was planning on getting those. I know they may not be what you are looking for and also know that you didn't mention them but I'll give them a shout.

I couldn't find the response of the 990's - sorry.

The response is a good way for you to know about how well the speakers will sound. Flatter responses give better sound I've found. The graphs come from headphone.com.

You'll be happy with your choice I'm sure.

Just as a heads up, the DT770 just got updated this year. You can find the older models for around 160$, but the 2006 version I can't seem to find for under about 240$us.

As for the headphones themself, you will enjoy the bass ^_^. Every time I listen to rock with some heavy hitting drums, I get a smile on my face.

~Enjoy

I just got my DT 770 Pro /80 ohm today. I am totally blown away by them, and cant keep them off my head. They are very comfy, and completely isolates you from the outside.
I also heard the 595s, but i like closed headphones better.
It has improved my gameplay in CSS alot too, since i can hear EVERYTHING, and exactly where it is. It is so good it feels like i am cheating :D
I am running unamped through the x-fi fatality front panel.

the A900 is the best of those three b/c it's better than the 770 and works fine unamped while the 595 needs an amp to compete. For gaming tho the A500 will be very good too for less $$ than any of these.

The hd590s did the same for me, now i'm hooked on cans.

Ok I'm definately going for the DT770-80s, now I just need to get the rest of my money so I can buy them :D

I'll bet I'm going to cream when I hear the bass on those things :D
