I am planning a system build in about 2-3 months. Am I stuck with the 7900 series or will there be a new nV "GT" class card out by then?

The Geforce 8 should be out or coming out in 3 months time or less. Whether it is just one high end $600 card or a series of 2 or 3 cards (low mid high end) GS, GT, GTX, is unknown ;)

ArGh!!! Its not debuting quick enough!!!!!
I want my nvidia 8000 series card NOW!!!!! *stomps up and down like spoiled child* :p

no it cant wait 3 months. only got my 7900gt 2 months ago. gonna be pissed if nvidia releases a new card now to replace the gt. means i will be compelled to upgrade again. :D

Wonder if the next card will be fully DirectX 10 compliant? Should be considering Vista is getting closer to launch. Playing the waiting game sux.

Or will it say 10X compliant and really not be? You know, like how current cards were suppose to be HDCP compliant?

I want to wait and get an 8 series card too, but after the Nv and ATI HDCP lie I don't know if I can trust them.

ATI is in a class action lawsuit for a good reason (see http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/08/ati-sued-for-misleading-hdcp-claims/, PDF copy of actual suit http://www.theinquirer.net/images/articles/ATI_HDCPcase.pdf). nVIDIA doesn't have one as theydon't produce their own boards. They've told their IHV (evga, BFG, etc) that they need to add the HDCP encoding ROM in order to be fully compliant, so it's the vendors that have fallen short of their promise.

ATI's implicated as they actually produce their own boards and had the HDCP ready statement on their boxes.

Went back and looked, nope no HDCP comment of any kind on my 6600GT, 7600GS or Geforce 7 series cards my neighbors have. We've all kept our boxes, get more when selling used on ebay.

If anything, you can trust nV more than you can ATI at this point. :(

I think a better reference is when NVIDIA claimed their FX line as DX 9 compliant - yeah LIKE HELL it was.

And i dont think you can trust either company more then the other at any point.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if Nv proclaimed it as much as ATi. Unfortunatly, I've had more luck with ATI than Nv.

I might have to give Nv another shot.

all that it says on my xfx box is that it supports high definition gaming on the sticker that says "HDTV" in bold print/

I will be happy with my 7900GTX SLI as long as the cards don't die on me....
Yeah, they need to fix the 7900s before thinking about releasing anything else ;)

Which is completely true, as using either the "component" output or DVI to HDMI adapter, you can view material in HDTV resolutions.

HDCP content protection is for new H.264 HD DVD or Blue Ray material and other content protected by HDCP. You'll have trouble with these if the content provider sets the limiting flags on the content. All other HDTV content will display fine from your card.

For example WMV HD at 1080P work just fine.

[IRONY]The irony about the whole deal is that, and I don't support this, consumers may look for pirated content just to be able to view non-HDCP encoded material. This SNAFUBAR situation is actually going to hurt the media houses more in the long run due to all the non-compliant but HDTV capable equipment on the market. This includes most high-end computer displays and even several HDTV displays. We as PC users are focused on our graphics cards, but the HDCP problem extends beyond that alone in the overall market. But it's being all forced on us to punish us the honest users, the dishonest where never inconvienced with any of the previous protection methods developed. Heck, even the TV makers will benefit with early adopters having to purchase all over again "if HDCP encoded material is what they want access to".[/IRONY]

7900GS is supposedly supposed to be MSRP ~ $250 and come with either 16/20 pipes, probably 7 vertex shaders

For filling the gap btwn 7600gt and 7900gt

the 7950GTX comes out on may 30th.. for like six hundy I think.. pretty good. Quad SLI for $1200.. that's about what it cost to get a pair of 7800GTXs on opening day for those. whew...

If my 7900GTs don't crap out on me, I think I can hold out until the G80.. mmuusstt resssist temmmptation to go qqquad. ;)

just heard last week from a friend in the supply chain that G73b is being sampled by vendors.

Original G73 is the 7600 gpu, G73b is a 80nm die shrink.
