I'm going to E3 this year, anyone else?

My buddy works at Capcom and got me four tickets. You have to prove your affiliation with the game industry and then show two forms of proof, badge, insuranc card, W2, Business card, or paycheck stub. I got in last year working at Flextronics and hope to get in this year as I now work for Cisco.

Anyway, anyone else headed there next week?
 
I don't understand why these types of shows aren't open to the general public, it's not like we support the industry with our hard earned dollar or anything. :rolleyes:
 
Yeah, the reason why they don't open this event to the general public (according to my buddy) is that they do not want a bunch of 'kids' running around the place. Imagine the chaos if you had thousands of children going crazy!!!!

Probably because of the crowd they would generate. Alot of people will go to it and might get out of control. Only guess I can think of. But I do agree, I wish it was open to the public because I will be there!!
 
So they do a 18+ kind of thing, or 21+.

Well, there is no specific age requirement, you just have to prove you are affiliated with the game industry. So by default, you would have to be old enough to have a job.....I'll put up pictures of the ticket if anyone wants to look....
 
You want a good reason why its not open to the public? Look at screens and videos of the floor. The place is PACKED. They don't have much room for more people. What would probably then happen is being that the amount of tickets available is MUCH lower than the demand for them, the public will scoop them up before the press does, which in turn minimized coverage of E3.

As it is, if you really want to get in, chances are you can find a way. Get on good terms with the staff at a lesser know video games site, and ask them to get you a pass. Shouldn't be to tough.

because you have no "business" there. you talking to a developer about their game isnt going to generate sales like that same developer talking to a buyer from Best Buy, or a press person from IGN is going to. it's got worse in recent years with every kid from ebgames, funcoland or gamestop being able to get in for free. this year it seems they're cracking down on this and have decided to still allow the employees of these establishments to get in, but they have to pay $350 (i think.)
 
I'll try and take pics of the booth babes and some games I like and post them on here for HARD viewing pleasures.

BTW - This year's E3 doesn't have too many big announcements. Might be kinda quiet compared to E3's of yesteryear..... :(

I don't know about that, the Revolution... err Wii and the PS3 have yet to be released, so I'm expecting at least a few surprise announcements. Microsoft will also probably try to steal Nintendo and Sony's thunder so they must have something up their sleeves as well.

They're not banned, they just have to cover up thats all. Booth babes will NEVER be banned!!!!

When my friend and I were making games for the Jaguar console we got in the mail an inventation to E3. It told us prices, hotel comendations, and other shit. Of course seeing that we live in Texas and its in California, that didn't happen at all. Kinda wish we finished our game. We came up with a game idea for the Jaguar that required the cartdige and the CD to play. The game was like a Myst game and music was played through the CD and the game through the cartdrige.

I would like to see the tickets though.
 
Well if anyone is going, i dunno how cameras and stuff are allowed for the general public, like not gamespot.com type people. But if you have a friend with you, i'd really like to see some videos of someone playing red steel with a full view of his body and the screen. I just reallly realllly am looking forward to that game and the revolution, so youtube or yousendit or something if you guys get some nice footage :p

My plan was to sneak in whilst masquerading as a janitor. A really interested in games janitor. A sexay janitor that all teh booth babes will gravitate towards. Mwahahahhahah!
 
Not a really big deal though. Last year Fileshack had high def videos of all the presentations. Main thing im looking for this year is the PS3, Revolution(im not calling it that name ever!!), and Quake War presentations. Maybe a couple other games will catch my eye but that is about it.
 
How in the world do I get pictures on here. I have to upload them to some hosting site first?? I tried the sites the H gives but none of them work?

You know whats funny. I got one of those also... and I am not, nor have I ever been a member of the press. I was just a lucky winner I Guess :p. I probably should have given it away, but I didnt think of it at the time, and tossed it, as I cant afford to go.
 
im going... and every year the place is so packed, I couldnt imagine if it was open to the general public.
 
Went last year, Can't go this year though since I quit my job to continue my schooling and well need to save money.
 
I was offered to go as a member of the press but I have another show I have to be working on at the same time. No big loss, we'll all see that stuff a few months later anyway.

Umm maybe it's because all the companys that pay big money to attend don't want to waste their time with the CS kiddies that run around looking to grab free "stuff" :rolleyes:

Most of the big booths now require you to show industry credentials before entering thanks to them.
 
For the past 2 years I've gone every year, and I plan to go this year too. I am in no way affiliated with anything in the gaming industry...and I'm underaged. Silly requisites mean nothing....Just as long as you know the right people.
 
I work for GamerNode, but I live in Canada and I'm 17.

Perhaps next year I'll go, if I can save up the cash. Hopefully E3 falls AFTER university exams in 2007!!!!
 
i've been to E3 for the last 5 years. i'm not going this year, as they've discontinued their alumni program, and i'm no longer in the "electronics entertainment" industry. it's a shame, since the event's been absolutely ABYSMAL for the last 3 years - i've mainly been going in order to hang out with some friends i don't get to see too often. this was the first year i was even remotely looking forward to it, and i can't go (which is fair, since i don't rightly have any affiliation).

to dispel some earlier posted myths:

booth babes have been under fire and under loose "regulations" for the past few years. the fact is, most companies don't listen, and have their whores-- i mean, models show up wearing next to nothing anyway. this year, apparently the policy is being more strictly enforced, though it'll be interesting to see if the companies dress the girls more conservatively or not (regardless of the proposed "fine").

18+ is a requirement, as previously posted. however, anyone who's been to E3 will tell you that, at least until last year, there have been WAY too many kids running around. in 2004, i saw children as young as 9 or 10 running around with loot bags and playing games. nothing disruptive really, and a nice change from the sea of internet-blog poseurs in faded "girl jeans" and black-rimmed glasses trying to out-hip everyone else. still, they're not really supposed to be there. i've always assumed they were the kids of some employees, or belonging to some of the celebs that seem to get in.

for anyone that has never been, and is maybe feeling a little down about it, let me tell you: you're not missing a bloody thing. there comes some small satisfaction from being the first on your block to play X or Y before everyone else, but the excitement fades fast, and the noise, heat, stink of hair and sweat, and ULTRA-subpar food remains until the event closes each day.

the floor is littered with college poseurs, desparate-for-attention punk-rockers and goths, and japanese super-camera crews (swarms of 10 guys all carting around a camera rig, tearing thru crowds by force to film shit no one cares about). it's very crowded -- you'll get bumped into or cut off more times than you can imagine, and it's hot as all get out. much like CES, every developer/publisher tries to drown out their neighbors by blaring the audio from every display. unlike CES, there appears to be no policy or regulation in place to deter this activity, and thus, E3 is hopelessly, needlessly noisy. you often have to shout when chatting with your friends/coworkers.

the booth babes might look good, but they're all professional models, and most would rather swallow a box of nails than put their arm around you for a picture. after you see who they have to smile to and interact with, you'd understand why. some guys might find the prospect appealing, but i'll pass -- i'm not in the habit of cuddling women who are punching the clock and want nothing to do with me.

you can bring pretty much any kind of camera you like; i've never noticed any policies or postings to the contrary. i've always brought a digital camera, as have my friends, with no trouble. Square/Enix tried to prevent us from filming some crap game of theirs a few years ago, and we just kept walking around the screens from the other side and doing it anyway. not that we cared what game it was (i don't even remember now), but just because it pissed them off (what the hell did they expect?).

sorry for the rant, folks. just trying to offer some solace to those who won't be attending! ;)

You have to be an adult, last year was fucking crazy there were people from the industry bringing their fucking kids, I actually saw a few STROLLERS!!! dude omg wtf!

Yeah they locked it down due to that dumb shit. I wish I could go again this year but the credentials arent as easy to fabricate this time around. You just cant work for a videogame store and get in, you gotta have some fat credentials to get a pass.
