There have been refurbished 30-32 inch HDTV's on Phillips site linked by the www.gotapex.com site nearly every other day that are capable of both 720p and 1080i that cost only 350 shipped. They have HDMI and Component in. I've considered buying one, but have a HDTV projector and don't really need it. But 350 bucks shipped for a HDTV is amazing, and refurbed directly from the manufactorer with warranty is pretty much as good as buying new.

Besides, the guy who said with the Xbox 360 you have to buy an HDTV, otherwise it's worthless?

UM?

Most people have a TV, and an HDTV isn't that much more in expense than a regular TV. I would assume you would do other things with your TV outside of play with your 360...like watch cable TV, news, view DVD movies etc. So that argument isn't valid.
 
interesting arguments some of you are putting forth. Let me give my perspective. First off i own both a high end pc and the xbox 360. Second off unlike some of you. I actually buy every single high end video card the day they come out. Why? Simple, i love performance. It is why people like me own everything from the 6800 to the 7900 series. And it is why we own both the old and new xboxs. Sony can kiss my ass so the only thing i have from them is the psp.

But bottom line. If you are a gamer than there is no either/or. You buy both and depending on what performance or gameplay is like, you buy your games to fit the system.

So to the OP. Should you sell your xbox? Why would you? Whats wrong with keeping both? If you love technology than sure you will accumulate alot of junk from multiple displays to multiple computers. And consoles. But thats what closets are for. hehe.

I actually enjoy setting up AA/AF and other graphical tweaks for a game that I'm really into. Computers offer customization that consoles never will, one of the many reasons why I currently prefer a PC over a console.

I don't think that you made any kind of a mistake. I think you actually made a wise move making the sale before the residual value of your XBOX360 got too low.
 
I liked pc gaming until games started being released in beta form, to be doctored up by possible patches six months later. I'm tired of buggy games. Consoles have far fewer release bugs and the games are actually worth playing through when you get them!!! instead of the typical PC game six month wait after you buy the game for all the kinks to get worked out.

I personnaly got sick of upgrading my PC to play the biggest and baddest. I have a killer (as of last year) laptop.. I could game on it.. i don't. 360 is so much better for all the reasons above.. as far as the HDTV goes.. I got that for watching football.. BTW Dell has refurbed 23inch flat panel lcd's for 500, works great as a monitor for my desktop, and as a screen for my 360 when the wife kicks me off the big tv.

Hard to say. You can justify it by saying games you want to play are on the PC, but alot of them are designed for a console. The fact you are saying you will buy one down the line, is a big hint its a mistake putting it up for sale. You won't make a profit off it anymore, the boom of selling them on ebay for twice of cost is over. Why lose money selling it now, then only to buy another one when more games come out? Better just to hold on to it, and see what happens. Not to mention when PS3, and Wii release, that most likely when microsoft is gonna hit the marketing big with exclusive titles.

A consoles life is typically 5 years. Most 'hardcore' pc gamers upgrade every 2 years. Using Oblivion as an example... why spend $1400 upgrading your PC to play the game on your 19" monitor when you can spend just $400 and play it on whatever size TV you'd like ?

The line between consoles and pc's graphically/performance-wise has nearly dissapeared. Whereas in the past, the pc gamer clearly went that route for graphics and perfomance, now a days, next gen consoles are matching and even now OUTPEFORMING top notch $1500+ gaming pc's.

Or you could upgrade your PC every five years and play on lower setting like you're forced to do with consoles. After about two years consoles start to look dated.
 
Well I finally got rid of it today, it didn't bother me much shipping it out. :D I got $450 for it on ebay including shipping, not bad. I will upgrade my pc now or get a new lcd.

I can build a pc that runs Oblivion about as well as the 360 for 550$.

Athlon 64 @ 2+Ghz
1GB ram
X1600XT
80GB HD
Antec Case w/450W PSU
Biostar-Tforce Mobo
DVD-Rom drive

Edit: maby not as well but it will still run with max settings, just it will be a little sluggish, if you change the X1600xt to a X1800XT it will run it as well and that for about 700$ total.
 
The thing I really love about PCs is the variety of things I can do. Edit video files, do my school work (word, excel, etc, and mathematica for the win!), surf the net, play and edit audio files, and the occasional gaming.

Probably my favorite reason I prefer PCs to consoles though, is the FREE mods that come out for games. Like Half-life and Half-life 2, I pay $40-50 for Half-Life 2 and I get all these other great games that go with it and other ones are in development. The Hidden, Dystopia, Counterstrike, Fortress-Forever and Black Mesa : Source (both in the works). All the mods for Oblivion which fix a lot of the negatives to the game (psychic guards, horse running away, etc), you dont get those on consoles.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents, let the rants continue

And then you start to realize that farther down the line, it's gonna cost more and more money to keep it up (maintenence, insurance for a sports car, rising gas prices and such) and then start to think that you probably would've been just as happy with the focus instead of the moneysink that is the SVT mustang :D.

I don't have a 360 and im not going to get one.

Whenthe first X-box came out it had better graphics than my PC, 6 months later It would just sit there because I did not have HDTV and nothing supported it at first.

Once I boguht my 30 inch sony CRT HDVT (very very clean picture compared to LCD DLP etc) I pulled it back out invested a bunch of money and now I only play moves on it (which it is not that grate at either). Just was not enough fun.

I don't think the X-box 360 has hardware that will support the affects of DX10 when it comes out so get ready to buy a new console.

Some games just suck with a controller vs keyboard, and it will be some time before I see games with resolutions like 1600x1200 or whatever you might be runnign on a TV. PC is alot mroe, but it is also multi functional and cutting edge. I don't get a new video card every time one comes out that is not necessary...but when it is slow I throw some money at it or build a new one tailored to my specific needs.

Games look better on my NEC 22 FP2141SB than tehy ever will on my TV.

Not a big LCD fan here...The hardware is might not be fully utilized but HDVT resolutions are and it will be SOME TIME before they change everything to support something better than HDTV.

Don't get my wrong consoles can be fun, but good luck playing a game and listenign to music at teh same time late at night with headphones on it. And good luck after your wanting DX10 style affects and need 4GB of memory. I'll jsut throw some more money at the PC if I feel the need.

I'm glad that consoles ARE coming out with mods for games for free now if you have X-box Live for example.


And yea you have to buy HDVT or XBox2 is worthless, and Watch TV and DVD's isn't a valid argument since they are not yet broadcast in HD, Unless you have a built in tuner like me and are lucky to pickup a few Channels. Still waiting for damn HD DVD's to come out as well....Most people as of right now though do NOT have HD Video streaming into their homes so the HD upgrade argument is somewhat valid.

nice OC on that opteron Milky, had to turn mine down to 2700 because it wanted 4.55 volts to be stable at 2800 on water :(
 
i said this time and time again, get a 360 nw and wait till dx10 cards and vista comes out

Not trying to be a dick or anything... but exactly how far along was PS2 when God of War and Gran Turismo 4 came out?? After 2 years is when the consoles start to shine. It's my understanding that the PC hardware, because it's ever changing, never sees full optimization like a console will. I therefore think you're sadly mistaken in saying that consoles are 'forced' to play at lower settings and look dated after two years.

I don't really like the PC vs. Console war thing myself, but I have a PC with an X2 and a single 7900GTX and an Xbox 360. I play the 360 about every day. My PC gets my time only when my friends want to play games they they don't have on the 360, and that's rare.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
 
I would like to point out one more thing, cheating in competitive gaming; on the PC it is impossible to prevent someone from examining \ altering game state to their advantage. While games are designed to make this type of thing difficult, it’s always going to be possible.

Meh, on counter-strike it used to be a nightmare, but now I hardly ever see cheaters.
