Just curious, I am in the market for a 20 inch or better LCD monitor that will present the best picture for use with an XBox 360. I have read many reviews in here for monitors with the 360 but they all seem to have a tradeoff in some respect (bad AR, too dark etc.). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Trust me, I just got the NEC Multisync 20WMGX2. It's a 20inch widescreen monitor that has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and double as a TV. I have the Xbox 360 hooked up to it's component connection and it looks awesome. I can recommend this monitor without hesitation.

I've had the Gateway 2185 which had a dark output via component and the Dell 2005fpw which looks washed out when you use the vga cables. I've also now realized that there was a slight input delay on the Dell 2005fpw when I was playing on the Xbox 360 because it's easier to control games now using the 20WMGX2. The 20WMGX2 does complete justice to the Xbox 360. No dark output, no washed out colors; just an excellent image with no compromises.

The only negative against the NEC Multisync 20WMGX2 is that it costs around $750. It's well worth it though if you consider that it does an excellent job as a PC and TV monitor.

is it really dark with the gateway 2185? I want to get that because it has so many inputs and it is only 600. I planned on using it for my computer(vga), 360(component), and as my hdtv through dvr(dvi).

Yes, I know from first hand experience. I bought the Gateway 2185 in December and it had a very dark output in component. Even if I adjusted the brightness to maximum, it was still too dark. That's not even including the fact the monitor uses a PVA panel so it already has the inhernet flaw that any image no matter input, will be dark when you vew it head on, and will actually look brighter when you look at from the sides.

The NEC 20WMGX2 does an excellent job as an HDTV and PC monitor (1680x1050 res). Yes, it's $150 more, but you won't regret it. It's worth every penny IMO.

Ugh. I had the Gateway for awhile and took it back. The component inputs are a complete joke. I hooked my Xbox 360 to them and was just stunned at how dark it is, something like 30 gamma points less than the VGA/DVI and there's no adjusting for it. Contrast is all out of whack too. Avoid.

The best Xbox 360 solution may very well be the Viewsonic VX2025 + Vdigi VD-Z3 transcoder ($60) which converts component inputs to VGA. That way you can keep the rich color saturation of component (which is washed out over the Xbox 360's VGA cable).

Buy.com has the Viewsonic for something like $360 right now, so with the Vdigi you're looking at a bit over $400 total.

I'm getting a Vdigi today and I'll post my review here tonight on how well it works with the Xbox 360.

The samsung 215tw is another option but I have heard its component inputs only work at 480p if it is then its a bit useless. I should in a few days tell you if that's accurate.

Hmm, Idk, maybe you guys just got a bad monitor or something. I just went to Circuit City with my 360 and hooked it up to that monitor to try it out. It looked incredible to me. Halo 2(my most played game lol) looked alot better than it does on most displays I've seen. PGR was perfectly bright enough. Oblivion was really dark but after turning the in game brightness up all the way, as well as the monitor brightness, it looked really nice.

It's a personal thing I think. I didn't have any problems with the brightness/darkness of the Gateway, but the color reproduction kept bugging me and no amount of playing with the color settings could fix it. I wound up taking it back because of that.

I have the NEC also and I wouldn't go as far as you do. Hooking up the 360 via the Component inputs does have a little amount of noise within the picture, but it's pretty normal for PC monitors with video jacks. The picture does look pretty good for games though.

westinghouse 37" 1080p LVM-37w3

I second that.

The above monitor has the best image quality.....regardless of price. That's not to say it is over priced, because it is the cheapest priced 1080p LCD out there, and has better image quality then most $5k LCDs, IMO.

Bumping for more sub-$1000 options. :D

I was planning on a 2405 but after reading up on it I'm not sure at all. :( I'd be interested in hearing more opinions on a good looking solution.

yeah, ill have to confirm, that that westinghouse was a really good choice
