I'm in the market for a new widescreen LCD monitor. I've been eyeing the Rosewill 19" but I noticed the Acer was $215. I was about to pull the trigger but reading up in reviews (since I hadn't read about the Acers) I somehow started looking @ the 20" Viewsonic for about $350. Since I just recieved $200 I just have to pay the difference for the purchase price of the monitor. I haven't selected the vid card as I'll buy one compatable with the monitor I buy.

The cheap bastard in me keeps going back to the 19"er. Please give me some good reasons why I need a 20".

go to costco and look at the 20in gateway... that will convince you ;)

seriously tough, aside from being obviously more screen real estate... its about what you can afford... basically do you want to stare at a bigger screen. dosent matter what video card you have, no native gaming still looks good on 20inchers

Viewsonic....kicks ass.

Widescreen...kicks ass.

20"...kicks 15",17" & 19" ass

Viewsonic VA1912wb 19" widescreen user here.

TIP: If you are a gamer, make sure you have the video card performance to push the resolution that the monitor uses natively.

The only real difference I can see is higher resolution and the additional digital input. I know about the reputation of viewsonic I'm currently using a 17" CRT viewsonic wich takes up my entire deskspace. That's why I'm considering the 20" viewsonic instead of the Benq or Sceptre.

Fortunatley for me the wife is content to let me buy whatever. I guess that's what I get for buying her a new table and taking her clothes shopping.

I appreciate the info, I just really need to know the the additional $135 is money well spent...

In my opinion, the extra money is worth it. DVI monitors are always more expensive than the analog ones.

BUY IT OR YOU GO TO HELL

..kidding :)

So....God wants me to buy the 20"!?!

Good enough for me ;)

Now should I be frugal and pick up the Benq from Newegg if it goes down to $299 tomorrow or should I get the Viewsonic from Buy.com $339?

We're narrowing down now.

I would read up on neweggs and buy.com's dead/stuck pixel policies.

I remember newegg's exchange policy for monitors is pretty stiff.

The Viewsonic gets much better reviews than the BenQ

Well I'm happy with my Viewsonic CRT I think I'll hop on the 20" Viewsonic bandwagon.

I've ordered it, now we play the waiting game...

That's why I didn't buy mine there and I actually paid alot more for it for that reason.

The Benq is a 6bit TN panel... I'm very happy I got the Viewsonic instead. At $339 it's a steal.

Is it true that WS displays loose scren area because of rectangular shape compared to standard 4:3 screens. I heard from somebody that a 20" 4:3 screen has more screen space than a 20" 16:9 screen.

This would be indeed correct. Just calculate the pixels: 1680x1050 is a lot less than 1600x1200...
