hey all..

story goes..

today i wake up and go to get on my computer, just a black screen. my mouse is still moving though.. so i reboot and right before it goes into the windows boot up screen it gives me a blue screen that says ""unmountable_boot_device".. what exactly does that mean?? i hope to god i dont need another HDD.. i've about had it up to here with western digital drives dying on me

TIA!

Awesome, well not awesome, but awesome finding out what it was.. i just ordered some new ones a few days ago.... talk about good timing.

thanks again!

run chkdsk from the recovery console.

You might also want to run the manufacturer's diag tool for your hdd.

well i can't run nada becuase i can't even get into windows... and i think it's the HDD because i've tried different HDDs and everything boots fine. so the HDD is dead.. this is the 3rd time on this drive... i'm done with WDD

If you read the posts above yours, they're telling you to use the Windows recovery console, which is a bootable app on the windows disc. I had the same problem and was able to fix things fine, the hard drive still works fine. My problem happened because I lost power just as Windows was booting up.

i'll try it if i can find my windows disc. i just recently moved and lost alot of my discs, had to move quick so alot of things unfortunately got mixed up :(
