6800GT prints "gibberish" on BIOS, even after a warranty replacement

On 04/08 my 18-month-old XFX GeForce 6800GT card caused a bluescreen while playing World of Warcraft. After rebooting, there was "garbled" or "gibberish" text all over the POST and BIOS screens. Immediately after loading Windows, I got another bluescreen, except the colors were off and it was green.

I contacted XFX, who offers a lifetime warranty on the card. They offered to replace it. I received that replacement card today, 4/28, and the problem persists. I've already contacted them about what to do next, but while I'm waiting I figured I'd ask here, probably where I should have asked in the first place.

The original has never been overlocked, obviously neither has this brand new replacement one. This happens on two completely different computers (and now on two different videocards) so I'm fairly certain it's the video card. Any ideas/suggestions?

mobo / ram / cpu blew. one of the 3. I'd guess at cpu or mobo more.

Old GeForce 4400 works; friend's Gainward 6800GT works. It's the video card, and now it's apparent that they sent me a broken replacement.

Maybe the older 4400 isnt pulling as much power as your GT is, what kind of powersupply do you have? Did you happen to add any new components recently that may be taxing it?

why would you assume it was the video card causing the blue screen originally?

probably because he tested other video cards :-p.

Let this thread gather a little more steam and get some similar complaints from other people, then ask them for another RMA. And make sure you include a link to this thread :)

maybe they sent you back the same card :p .....i have heard of things like that happening and somone on this forum (cant recall who) said when they send their card back for a rma they make a discrete mark on it so they can make sure they get a different one back.

That would make the most sense, but it's a different serial number, and they slightly modified the design of the card since I had gotten mine. There's a metal plate on the top edge so it's easier to push into the AGP slot.

maybe this one was just bad out of the box as i believe most of the boards that they give for replacement are not new but refurbished/repaired boards

ya if its not the same card then i will have to go with soparik2 there are always people on this forum that keep getting bad cards when they rma because they send you refurbs
