recently the fan has been getting louder, and louder and its been spinning at full speed 24/7 and i cant stand it any more. My northbridge hasnt even been that hot. Idle its running at 49C. Is there any quick fix or is there any aftermarket solution that will fit under a 7800gtx and in a cramped p180?

If you haven't already, replacing the TIM with a good one like AS5 or Ceramique can drop temps around five degrees that some say makes it spin slower (also I can't remember exactly if there is an option in the BIOS to slow the fan). Another idea would be to hook up the fan to a rheostat or drivebay controller to tweak the speed. Some have found that the Evercool VC-RE heatsink at Jab-tech is a perfect fit and is quieter/more effective.

use ITE Smart Guardian it is the program that comes with the board, I can send it to you in an email nad you can have it change with the temps or just lower the RPM...

PM me and I can get it to you and or walk you through setting it up... it works great....

If you do go aftermarket, the Chip Force heatpipe cooler, Vantec Iceberq copper version or 4, and the evercool plio mentioned (I'm actually pretty sure this and the Iceberq 4) are favorites

Mine went south as well. It had the TIM replaced etc. But it got to the point I never heard a more annoying fan. It's supposed to have a non-traditional motor of some kind. Maybe it sucks and breaks. I just swapped it out for an old school original copper iceburg1 on an Ultra-D modded to SLI, no more problems, and will do the same to the DFI CFX3200 I have coming in. Bad memories of that nb sink.

That's the one I use after all these years. I just pushed the little midde part that protrudes up, down a little bit since the graphics card sits on top. Made sure it wasn't rubbing the fan by lifting it back up ever so tinily with those tiny screwdrivers for fixing glasses. Just paranoid.

Does anyone else have this same combo and have an issue with cooling your chipset? The x1900xtx hangs right over the chipset and I am just wondering if anyone has found an aftermarket fan or waterblock that can slide in there all wierd and fit. I am throwing some Artic Ceramique on it tonight to help but Id like to get the temps low.

I second the Evercool VC-RE. Fits perfectly on my Ultra-D in a P180. Never breaks the 50C barrier on load @ 1.6v with the fan running at about 2300rpm.

hows the noise ? im planning to moving my computer to my bedroom soon and having it on almost 24/7. Chipset fan makes more noise than my 7800gtx at full load
