it's weird that there's no contrast and sharpness controls for DVI

Not true. I just got my Dell 2007WFP, hooked it up via DVI, and had no problem adjusting sharpness.

Now it is true there is no contrast adjustment - but is there ever with DVI?

Overall, in the hour I've spent with this monitor I'm very happy. There is no backlight bleeding at all, no dead pixels, and none of the gradient problems I've seen other people complain about. It looks good with the Xbox 360 too, though the colors are a bit washed out due to the 360's VGA cable. That has nothing to do with the monitor. In fact, by putting the R,G,B all the way to 100 the Dell does a pretty darn good job of compensating for it, much better than the Viewsonic VX2025, which I also tried with my Xbox 360. I have a VD-Z3 transcoder on the way to see how the Xbox 360 looks via component (converted to VGA) so I'll report back.

So overall this puppy is a keeper. I've tried the Viewsonic, the Gateway 2185, and now this one and I'm happiest with the Dell.

Acutally, let me amend what I just said.

You can adjust the DVI sharpness if you're running a resolution under 1680x1050.

But for some reason in 1680x1050 you cannot. What's more, 1680x1050 puts the monitor aspect control in "Fill" mode instead of 1:1.

Shouldn't it be 1:1 at native resolution?

Weird.

I just won a 2007 off eBay for 429 and used my ebay 20 off coupon so its 409 shipped. Is that a good price on this? It was this or two 1707's LoL I saw how small 17LCD's are at my work we have 1704's and damn.. i'll be damned if I go from 2405 to fw900 to a 17"!! I miss my 2405 and regret selling it, but damn.. it was too big for not using it.

No gradient problems on the DVI connection? What revision is your monitor? A00? I find it hard to believe that you don't have any color banding issues, since everyone seems to be having them.

Plasma Pong looks terrible in DVI imo, the banding is very noticable.

Well maybe I'm just blind, but nope, I haven't had any gradient issues. I've been working on comic book images in Photoshop and they look as good there as they did on my CRT. No banding that I've seen. Maybe if there's some image you can point to on the net I'll see what it looks like on my end. ( I looked at the Plasma Pong website and the screenshot looks okay to me, no gradients).

I'm rev A00 too. I've also run the monitor check program CheckeMon and its color spectrum test looks nice and smooth.

My only quibble with the 2007 so far is the text seems a teeny-bit fuzzier via DVI than it does on other monitors. Nothing bad, but it's not really the super-razor sharpness I've seen DVI is capable of providing.

Anyone else?

pics? :)

I'm wondering what you mean about the blurry text. Plus some random shots would be nice too =D...

Okay I just tested the gradient thing on my 2007. I viewed this image:

http://www.cpq.net/downloadfiles/DownloadableBackgrounds/sunburst gradient.jpg

There is a very *slight* amount of banding towards the lower, darker portion of the gradient via DVI that I don't see in VGA. It's nothing I would've noticed if I wasn't looking for it and it doesn't really bother me. This is probably one of those pet-peeves we all seem to develop with monitors that some people see and some don't.

Mav451 -- sorry, I'm a caveman and don't own a digital camera, so can't do pics. But trust me, this "fuzzy text" thing I mentioned is so slight you would never see it in a photo. Fuzzy is actually the wrong word. More like "not quite as sharp as I would've expected". I think it has to do with certain combos of colored text on certain colors of background. It's certainly as sharp as you'd see via VGA on a good monitor, it just seems a teensy bit lacking for DVI.

Or maybe this is something I see that no one else would.

But as monitors go, this Dell is my choice over the Viewsonic and Gateway, both of which I've tried. The Viewsonic's image is fine, but can't do scaling. The Gateway has a very annoying issue with darks losing detail if you view them head on, plus very dark component inputs, and doesn't include a DVI cable, so that's $50 bucks extra on top of its $600 price. So of the three, I'm sticking with the Dell (bought it for $449 with coupons).

I'm really wondering if people are getting different panels on their 2007's, which would explain the conflicting reports of banding. Please post what model panel you have as found in the service menu.

to go into the service menu turn the monitor off, hold down the menu button and the + button at the same time and while your doing that turn the monitor back on. Now nothing will happen however the monitor takes a second longer to come on. Once on wait a second and press the - button and the service menu will pop up.

i found coloured texts to be strangly blurry on black background which is not normal for LCD. i previously owned two TN panel LCDs and never had this problem. a simple test is, do a search on hardforum then the words you are looking for will be highlighted. also the black screen tents to displace a violet hue if viewed at an angle from either side of the monitor.

I also have the blurry screen problem on my 2007, most noticeable with colored text, especially colored text on a colored background.

For example:

http://www.thottbot.com/?i=53102

The title of the item "Petrified Scarab" (in purple) looks almost like a double image. It's like this with all colored text, and even normal black text on a white background has colored tinges around it, as if the pixels are not aligned correctly.

There is no auto-adjust in DVI, and nothing I have tried has fixed it. Back it goes to Dell.

Mine does it also (2001fp) until I took my glasses off and put on my contacts. While unlikely, this may be your problem. Maybe your glasses are diffusing the light if you're not looking directly at the word while your eyes are level and perpendicular to the focal point of your lenses.

Interesting, I didn't know I could do that. Here's what my monitor says from left to right:

"B01C18 LPL WSXGA LM201W01"

No idea what it means, but there you go. My banding issue is nowhere near what other people have shown in screenshots.

lol isn't that the 2005fpw panel? I thought it was supposed to be the LM201W02.

Really?? Well then the plot has officially thickened. I assure you I have the 2007WFP, just arrived two days ago, and it definitely says "LM201W01".

It was a rumor, anyway. Maybe there's no such thing, now that I think about it. If it's the same panel as the old one, there shouldn't be any, or very little, banding.

That's the same panel that's in the 2005fpw and 20" apple.

Yeah I looked it up, was supposed to be a LM201WE2 but they are probably trying to get all of the LM201W01s out of the warehouse.
