Today my WinXP desktop got another friggin trojan on it. Totally messing up the operating system.

I've got 5, count them 5 spyware/malware programs installed and 1 antivirus program installed and shit still gets through. I'm going to be doing some reasearch on Macs and selling my PC.

My PC is in my sig so if you are interested I'll be selling it soon..

Man I'm frustrated.

your kidding right?

you got a system like that but cant figure out how to protect it

also with that system you must be a gamer so what do you expect to do on the mac?

This thread makes me laugh. Honestly, if you can't keep a clean system, then you are most definitely NOT [H] material.

I've built 5 systems for friends and family. Some of them are really ignorant about safe-browsing, but even then, the worst thing that happens is your standard fare of spyware (which takes maybe 20-30mins to clean, max). OTOH, they've yet to get a trojan, virus, or other BS.

I dont even run antivirus, my router and a few spyware checks every couple a months is all I need and I usually dont have any at that. Just be smart and dont download random things and your fine.

Well at least he wont have to worry about spyware from porn when viewing from the Mac :)

i have my pc for games, and mac for torents. I love goin to a pr0n site and having it trying to run an exe. file lol

I'll bet that's the only reason you go to those sites right?

i don't know what you are doing to get infected,... but I've been on pc's for years and i've NEVER gotten a virus.

All you'll be buying the mac for is the OS that's (for now) hack-proof.

There's this neat little thing called Linux you may want to try. Fedora Core 5, Mandriva, or Ubuntu might be what your looking for.

To all you [H]retards who have posted in this thread assuming it's me not knowing how to protect my machine. I've got a fiance who uses the machine, nuff said. Some of you guys in the forums are such tools. You come to a Mac thread and bash a guy because

You all asume I will be using the mac. Yeah my original post was vague at best, but taht didn't warrent the FNG's that came into this thread to flame me about wanting to get a mac.

My fiance uses at mac at her work just to clear things up, I wouldn't want some retard to come in here and then make some comment on how she won't know how to use the it.

Thanks to all who posted in here to wreck the thread. Preciate it. Great community.

Maybe if you made yourself clear in the begining this wouldn't have happened.

Anyways, things are always going to get through especailly since someone else is using it that doesn't know safe browsing.

Run the spyware removal programs every few days and you'll be fine. Stop freaking out.

Nowadays, it's impossible to stop everything especially with the creation of new unknown viruses, trojans, malware, spyware, and adware. The programs meant to protect against these things cannot protect until they have been discovered.

So, turn this pest in, maybe they'll name it after you. Congrats, you discovered a new virus. And maybe you will win the Nobel Prize.

Yeah, there was bashing from some people while others were making harmless jokes and having a good time. Yes, the bashing was unwarranted.

But...

Your post was very vague indeed. I don't see how anyone can derive the situation you were describing from your OP. From your wording in your OP, it seems like you are the one that is causing the issues, not your fiance. Like DA said above, you should have been more descriptive in the beginning instead of expecting all of us to use our psychic powers.

I do have one question though. If you plan to sell your PC and get the Mac.. what will you be using? Thats where the assumption came into play.

On topic, have you considered an Intel Mac? Thanks to Boot Camp you can have both worlds, a Mac for your Fiance to use for work and what not and XP for whatever else.

There are some good deals in the refurb section. I'm also wanting to sell my Mini and upgrade to an iMac.

Either teach the fiance how to use the computer, or stop letting her. Or better yet, delete or lockout IE and OE. This is not a pavlovian experiment. People should NOT be this stupid.

Funny thing

then you get pissy at people having some harmless fun and blame your missus (very slick).

Either way, just get HER a cheap 2nd hand ibook, like 500 or so, you keep your uber pc because YOU can handle it (heh) and she can handle her ibook (because we all know she knows how to use a mac).

Cheaper than getting rid of your pc and getting an equivalent mac if you ask me and then you have TWO computers, everyone wins.

that is as long as you can handle the windows box and she can really handle the mac ;)

Well, how about you be more clear in your OP before getting upset that you were flamed.

Also, how about educating your fiance on how to surf safely?

Why don't you get a router with plenty of firewall protection?

A Mac would be a very good way to go as well. However, blaming the other system for "getting" trojans/etc. is the easy way out. User error is to blame.

At the moment, getting a trojan on a Mac is hard work. It doesn't just take lax security to get one. Hell, you almost have to hunt for one and install it manually. It's not quite the same thing. I'm sure it might change sooner or later, but at the moment, a computer-ignorant user is perfectly safe on a Mac.

black morty is exactly right. Unlike windows machines, OS X does not assume that everyone is an administrator.

when im in theh pron mood i use the wifes puter then i blame her for anything she ummm gets.
