Viewsonic VX2025wm arrived! First impressions and pics

I just got this monitor too and I had the same problem, what I did is install the Viewsonic
driver and rebooted.

^ ^ Sorry for my stupidy but how do you delete the posts especially the last three???^ ^

orpanyD,

do you mean you were able to use fixed aspect ratio by installing the Viewsonic drivers?
I did the same thing to no avail.

Regarding the bad batch of DVI input... I was tinkering with the Nvidia display tool, especially with the advanced timing just to get the monitor to show fixed aspect ratio and somehow I think I fried the dvi connection. After a few tinkerings, there was no signal going to the DVI connection. Analog was ok but the DVI was busted... good thing that was only two days after I bought it so I was able to have it replaced at Fry's. whew!

so right now I'm not tinkering with it for the meantime, i'm just using my crt for those 4:3 games i have and using the vx2025 for the newer games that support widescreen.

I didn't do anything special..just went to the driver settings, and checked fixed aspect ratio, and whaalaa, it was done...are you sure your refresh rate is set at 60hz?

thanks for the recommendation. got two today, look fantastic. will snap photos of the setup later to share.

What are all of your build dates? Mine is January 2006... Is this odd since I just bought it this week?

I just got it from JandR and so far I love it. No dead pixels... Some backlight bleed but I can live with it...

What are your color settings? Contrast? Brightness?

@Nephandus

Yah I have it set at 60Hz. Could it be from the Forceware drivers? I'm using the 84.21 forceware drivers.

I'm also having problems with anything other than "Monitor Scaling" for the Digital Flat Panel Settings.

There are four options:
* Display adapter scaling
* Centered output
* Monitor scaling
* Fixed aspect ratio scaling

Only "Monitor Scaling" works for me.

All others produce "Out of Range" on my monitor :(

Apparently others are having the same issue.

I used to have an 6800 Ultra AGP connected to my vx2025wm and I had no problems with any of the 4 settings. I recently upgraded to a 7900 GTX and I've never been able to set any of the settings other than "Monitor Scaling".

We need to gather more information as to what the issue is !!!

So far it seems like all of us having trouble with the fixed aspect ratio option are running Nvidia 7x00 series cards with the latest drivers. I guess a couple things to try would be

1. Use an old card with new drivers.
2. Use a new card with old drivers.

Maybe we can get it narrowed down to either a driver issue or a hardware compatibility thing with newer Nvidia cards.

edit: I'll also try the above two options with and without the Viewsonic drivers installed and report back this afternoon.

I did a thread search on "lesnumerique", etc. and didn't see this, so hopefully it's not a repost.

Here's a review comparison, with stats similar to behardware, between the VX2025wm and the 20WMGX2:

http://www.lesnumeriques.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=41&ma2=52&mo2=95&p2=969&ph=1

Run it through http://babelfish.altavista.com French to English to see what they're talking about.

In summary, the response in the racing car guy test looked like the Nec won the best case and the Viewsonic won the worst case. Of course this tests a tiny fraction of the response matrix - can't wait for THG or xbit to review these. Since it sounds like it's P-MVA, it probably is much worse than an IPS panel on dark transitions (just look at past THG or xbitlabs reviews on *VA panels).

I've tried with and without the viewsonic monitor driver - it doesn't seem to fix the problem. Still says "Out of Range" :(

I've tried several diplay drivers and it still says "Out of Range".

I think it's a compatibility issue with some 7900/7800 cards and this monitor.

I think it's a good monitor but I must warn people that you may have some issues with flat panel display settings other than "Monitor Scaling" if you have an nVidia 7800/7900 series video card.

i am using a bfg 7800gtx with latest xp drivers. everything ok on this end. what is the problem you are having, maybe i can help to fix it

The problem is that no other setting other than "Monitor Scaling" works at NON NATIVE resolution.

If you use native resolution, you may not see the issue.

I get Out of Range error showing on the monitor - the screen is all black except the error message itself.

Well fixed aspect ratio works with my GF4 ti200 but not with my 7800gt or 7900gtx with old or new drivers. wtf.

I know what you mean !!

I could use all 4 modes with my old 6800 Ultra but with my 7900 GTX, I can ONLY use "Monitor Scaling" !!

I feel like crying :mad:

The worst thing is that I don't know what's wrong. Is it a driver issues, video card issue, or monitor issue.

Got mine last Saturday. The best gaming monitor so far, better than my 24" CRT! Mainly play FPS: CS, DOD Source, Red Orchestra. Ratio is not a problem me. Although, I'm running 1680x1050 99% of the time. I'm running it on XFX 7900GT.. with 82.?? beta drivers.
When viewed at an angle screen looks brighter and colors are washed off. Not a big deal, but it's there. I'm not always straight in front of the monitor.
Overall I'm very happy with vx2025wm!

i just got this last night from Fry's. It had one dead pixel on it so i returned it this morning and got another one. Hopefully it doesnt have any dead pixels.

What monitor settings do you use? I noticed that it's maxed out on brightness and contrast. Does this monitor require any tweaking to maximize it's potential?

It was too bright for me right out of the box. I have contrast at 60, and brightness at 50.
If you have nVidia you can run their monitor calibration wizard. go to the nvidia properties -> Tools, you'll see it there.
I still have not gone through whole wizard.

after readin every post in this thread I'm picking one of these babys up!!!

thanks for all the great input everyone!!:)

It's seem to have a problem with the 7800 XX and the 7900 XX cards with the "aspect ratio" option...

I have to command tomorrow... Then for people who have this issue, try de Nvidia 78.XX and not the new drivers...

And let us know... Thanks.

I was afriad that my 7900 GTX was busted because I couldn't do "Fixed Aspect Ratio" scaling with my vx2025wm.

In fact the only option that works for me is "Monitor Scaling".

So my 7900 GTX is OK?

Then you say that "Monitor Scaling" has the same result as "Fixed Aspect Ratio"...????

Yes, no trouble with your card

No, i'm saying that anything other than "Monitor Scaling" results in a black screen with the words "Out of Range" in the middle.

Sorry for the stupid question, but what is Monitor Scaling and Fixed Aspect Ratio?
I just bought this lcd and i have a 7900gt and am wondering what compatibility problems there are.

The problem between the viewsonic and the 7900gt seems to be when you try to play with an old game which only support 4/3 ratio...

So with the 6800 and older graphic cards you have a "fix aspect ratio" which give black bars on the sides...

With the 7900.xx this option doesn't seem to work... Then the picture is stretched.

I don't have any of both... But I want. Then I ask if this driver works.

Sorry if this is old news, but I just noticed the price on Newegg went down from $415 to $409. In case anybody is still on the fence about getting it. :cool:

I'm in the club!

My local fry's had it for $450 w/ a $50 mail in rebate! This thing is AWESOME. My first Widescreen and my first LCD and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to get one!

No dead pixels and the backlight bleeding is almost non-exsistant! Thanks for this thread - ya'll helped me make my decision and I think I got a pretty good price too. I'm bout to load up EVE and check it out on this thing...

(If you guys want pics, I'll post them - but there seems to be tons of them up here already!)

I was impulsive and bought mine from Fry's little over a month ago at $497.99. I was furious to say the least when they lowered the price after their 30 day return policy. I ended calling anyways to see if I can get some compensation. They ended up offering me $53 in store credit...

for ATI users (i'm on an x850xtpe) think this might be the option to look at -

Backlight bleeding issue! Is it always like this? I have a black backround and I can see it in the corners...but if I move my head (like what the OP said he did) it goes away...

I got 30 days to deciede on whether I wanna live w/ it or not - its not noticable in any of my games at least. Anyone got a website where I can DL some backrounds thats aren't black - hahahah!

Wow.. I just read this whole thread... I ordred one of these and it should be in tomorow. Great info in here!
